It's the percentage of registered vehicles that are stolen. Not the total number of registered vehicles stolen

Any particular Cadillac Escalade has a 1.32% chance of being stolen.
Any particular Evo has a 1.19% chance of being stolen.

Compare to a Ford Taurus, in which a particular vehicle has a 0.03% chance of being stolen.

I've got to say that I have followed these boards for three years and I have heard of almost no thefts. I can't believe that this statistic is accurate. Someone start a thread so we can assess known thefts among our members.

I think that people are reading what is being said wrong...it says number of theft claims. I do not believe that this means number of cars taken, but number of cars that have had theft claims against them. A simple stereo being stolen would fall into the category of theft claims, the article does not specifically state that the car was taken. I could be wrong, but this would explain why the Evo is so high on the list. How many Evo owners have the stock head unit? I would bet that many, many do not and theives would know that the Evo is the type of car that a typical owner would put an aftermarket head unit in. So they would stand a higher chance of being hit, not to mention wheels or other objects being taken out of them. For my part I had a stereo stolen out of my Evo in front of my fathers house. I went out of town with him and it was one of about ten times that my cars has been parked outside overnight in three years of ownership and sure as **** someone broke into it....

Anyone else notice the stat of overall payment per vehicle per year? The insurance companies pay out an average $22 a year per car on theft claims. TWENTY TWO DOLLARS! WHY is my insurance 100x that?

I think its kind of tough to judge because the ratio is so skewed for the amount of EVOs on the road compared to the other cars.

Here, too: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13179668/

I agree it's skewed by the small number of Evos, though.

there's a high demand for replacment parts for the evo. bodyshops need parts. not enough junked evo's to supply the demand, plus the replacement cost for some oem parts,ex. $1500.00 for a wing. the chop-shops see this and are responding to the demand. as more evo's get on the road the trend will continue.

SO you took the time to tell us it's a repost . you should have just moved on. evo owners care for evo owners. There is lot of fat ones in wal-mart so get back to work.
