Whine "like a supercharger" -- I bet the front of your air intake is coming up, and the suction is causing the whistle as it touches the top of your hood. It'd be worth checking out

That's assuming you have the stock airbox

Thats basically the same description you gave before. What rpm do you start to notice it? any notice in performance? I know you said you dont have a boost gage but can you tell if you are loosing boost? Any white smoke? Is it as high of pitch as a turbo or a lower pitch like a supercharger? does the sound continue all the way through the RPM's? Have you done any upgrades or changes to your car latley?

I think that is a good idea. I would not drive hard untill you figure it out if you really are concerned.

Did the problems start right when you changed the intatake? You are probably already aware but whith an intake the Turbo "whine" will be much more pronounced then with the stock factory box which is designed to be quiet

its probably that ghetto injen intake. put the stock airbox back in and see what happens. Running an open intake system on any evo untuned can give you a list of drivability problems.

I once had a starter that would stick and stay engaged to the flywheel and it sounded like a supercharger. Doubt its related to your problem

If it sounds like an automatic transmission sound *a lil whiny* it's normal. If its from the engine bay I have no clue. =\ record a video for us?

Could the problem be described as sounding kinda like a belt whine? Is it sound "Grinding" at all? Metal on Metal?

Process of elimination, son.

If you can repeat the sound when the car is at a standstill then it has absolutely nothing at all to do with the drivetrain (TC).

If you can repeat the sound as stated above (at standstill) then someone can poke and prod under the hood to see if the source can be found.

the supercharger sound you're talking about, its a mechanical whining correct?

does it happen ONLY in boost of any level or is it combined with going beyond a certain RPM? if it occurs in boost ONLY at any RPM, then it likely has to do with the turbo/intake tract. if it's RPM dependant, then it's likely something mechanical (belt or something that spins with engine RPM).

I've never experienced a dying turbo, but could it be the source of the noise?
