I dropped off my car at the dealership for an oil change today at 8:30 AM. They told me that it would be $59.99 for the oil change, and that's what I signed for. Since it would take 2 hours for the oil change, I asked them to drop me off at work which is like 10 minutes away. They called back 20 minutes ago at 9:30 AM saying that it's ready, but they made a mistake and it should be really $89.99 + tax + fees = $105. I didn't want to make a big deal over the phone, and so all I said was I'll deal it when I come get my car at lunch (12:00 PM). Since I already signed for $59.99 + tax, I don't think I have to pay $105. Should I or should I not?

By the way, keep in mind, this dealership has been iffy in the past. I got a great deal from them when I bought my car, but they are not great people. In fact, the last time I was there, I went to fix the knob on my chair. I walked into the office and asked if they could take a look at my chair, and the guy instead responded by saying, "so, is your car modded?". Obviously he was looking to void my warranty. So ya, that's just one example of how they are clowns. They tried taking advantage of me, so I think I should take advantage of their mistake.

What would you do? I have about 2 hours to decide to pay it, or make a scene out of it.

 

Tell them that is not what you agreed to and there is no way in hell you are paying $100 for $25 of oil and filter.

I would make a scene if it comes to that and I were in your shoes.

i would just look for a manager and chew his off until you get that lowered. make sure you include your past expieriences with them in your rant. but don't get too angry.

 

I would guess and say they did other stuff to raise the price, maybe like rotating the tires or something...

 

Whaaaaaat 105.00 oil change? are you serious?.... I would argue it big time, especially if you signed papers. You do know you could do about 4 oil changes for the price of that one 105.00 price tag,

 

I'm going guess it will be the old "That original price is not for synthetic oil. I'm really sorry and chewed the service writers a*s but, there really isn't much I can do."

Don't buy into that BS.

 

So this same thing happened to me. I now know that oil changes are yes $100 at my dealership, but i don't care because they are stand up people.

So at first they quoted me $60 or whatever and i signed it. Then when i came back with $60 they said it was $100 and i said i didn't have $100 because i thought it was $60, so i only paid $60 and they gave me a free oil change for next time because they got confused .

So moral to the story is just tell them all you have is $60, and you only brought it in because that's what you were quoted, if you knew it was any more you would have had to wait. And if they don't give you your car back you can even call the popo and have them look at the signed receipt.

but they shouldn't give you hard time, they know they made a mistake.

 

same thing here in south florida dealerships, i pay 60 bucks for the oil changes in between the regularly scheduled ones. **** i would argue with them like a **** if you already signed papers. thats ridiculous.

 

I believe that the going rate for an Evo oil change at the dealership is between $80-$90 + tax + disposal fee. So what they are wanting to charge you is about right. However, in good faith, they should only make you pay the reduced amount that they quoted you. I would be very polite at first and ask them to honor their initial quote. If they end up playing hardball I would politely tell them that I plan on picketing their dealership with a sign that indicates that they do not honor their commitment to good customer service. And then I would follow through. But never at any point would I lose my temper. That's just my style, though.

In the future, just buy your oil at Wal Mart, your filter at the dealership, and have some Stop N Lube place charge you $15-20 to change it for you. You'll save quite a bit.

 

105 bucks for an oil change. u shoulda gone to jiffy lube or suttin and got it done just as well for 20 bucks. lol

 

I'd like to know too. By the way, for proof here is my copy of the recept. Their copy is the exact same, but it's the signed copy.

DIY oil change = ~$6.50 oil filter + ~$21.00 5-quart jug of Mobil 1 from Wal Mart = $27.50.

Say you had a $10 markup for oil, and $20 labor...that's still only $57.50. Where do they come up with the extra money? I asked how much the oil changes were at my dealership and I couldn't help but laugh. Total ripoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yah. i was going to say the same thing. save your self the trouble and do it at home. buy a jack, drain pan, and maybe an oil filter removal tool and you get to save your self a couple hundred a year.

doing it at home costs less than 30 like machron1 said. and dont give me the "i don't have time for it" excuse because that crap takes like 10-15 minutes to do after you jack the car up.
