Have no fear! The company will customize the thing to produce the sound the costumer is after. Read the product info. Just scroll down the exact same page you were looking at and it's right there:

After reading the numerous BOV posts from folks who were after the sound, I thought this product might actually find a home. It's a win/win situation: an Evo's performance doesn't suffer and its owner gets the sound he wants. It's a JDM part, too, for that next level of intrinsic appeal.

I must say that my VTA HKS SSQ BOV is the loudest part of my car, even louder than my TBE.

For me I guess the appeal was having that turbo sounding car, the hissing/spooling, then the blow off's after shifting or letting off the gas....

I guess when I "blow off" its a way of saying dont mess with me, I'm boosting!

It's simple. The sound of a BOV informs those around you that you have a gigantic ***** and are therefore better than them.

What more could you want? I guess the alternative is to get a megaphone and yell "I have a gigantic *****," but the BOV does that without the need for megaphone batteries or you expending energy to say such words.

personally, i think its a cool sound. i wouldnt get a really loud one though. but wut sets us apart is we wouldnt put a loud BOV unless there was a need. most people these days just get the loudest one possible when there isnt a need for it.

and maybe we should. it seems to attract the wicket hot abercrombie chicks. lol. its the big ***** thing. lol

This must be what the stupid ricers talk about. Believe it or not, I've had multiple arguments with ricers about N/A cars not being able to have BOV's...and even if they could have them, there would be absolutely no point to having one...I guess I was wrong on the first part

why do people go to starbucks instead of panera bread? it's just a preference - maybe the sound augments the sensation of acceleration? psychological perhaps.

I'm not asking for justification; I'm asking for the rational. It's hardly the same thing.

The idea is the same, it draws attention to the fact that that person has a modded turbo car, and no matter what you do, if you have hard pipes, an open filter, etc (competant mods) - you are going to have a whoosh of air, might as well make it whistle or sneeze for some individuality.
How does it add to individuality, when so many cars have it?

IF you had one that was just tha subdued whoosh, so be it. Other people what more volume or a different pitch. Its just like loud pipes, big rims, and everything else that has to do with modifying a car.
If one were to follow the somewhat absurd notion that I quoted, how does it add to the individuality mentioned above? If everyone does the same thing, then it's not an individualizing act. Mass Customizing, if you will - an oxymoron.

So yeah for me the reasons are:
1. Because I like it.
2. Average cars don't make that sound, get over it.
1. As one is adding an aftermarket part to a $30K+ vehicle, takes the time to choose and order the product, and to install it, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that he might have a reason that stretches beyond, "I like it, because I like it."

2. Average cars do make that sound. All it takes is ~$100.

With all this in mind, I hope you can see the running paradox illustrated by your comments.

I'm not familiar with Panera Bread. Assuming it's another coffee house, one would think that it would not be chosen due to the quality/grind/style/taste/composition/roast of the coffee and the associated beverages. Then, there's location, atmosphere, service, pricing, etc.

...perhaps.

I think we all here have made some rational as you say as to why we want or have a BOV. It does add individuality...I have one and I see tons of turbo cars w/o BOV so its a...choice. So theres your rational...someone is rationally deciding..."hmm I don't really want a BOV on my car." others go "that sounds cool I'll put one on." and there you go thats the rational decision behind how you do it.

as for mass customization....every car is different. We all here for the most part have EVO's we just choose our parts and thats what makes it "customized." I'm not sure where your going with the customizing thing...its a hobby.

I enjoy the fact that you keep asking and keep going around this question over and over...but what is you want?? we gave you input and I hope it helped... If you have specific question and not a generic question about BOV we can go about this all day like Plato and Socrates....

The answer is simple. It is to show off that you own a turbo charged car and also for your own enjoyment. Kinda like how Harley guys buy loud pipes. They want to show off that they own a Harley and at the same time they too love the sound while riding the bike. Is it kind of stupid? Yeah. Is it kinda ricerish? Yeah. Is it fun and do I like it? Yeah. But my APS isnt all that loud. Just right. And I, as well as many others, bought it because it holds more than stock boost (I need to hold 22psi) and not just for sound.
