I wish I had the foresight to include an age poll. I think it's pretty obvious how things break down just from the posts, themselves, but it could have added another fun element to the discussion.
As illustrated my MuslimEvoFreak's comment, posted inches above, it seems like much of the desire for the BOV sound is driven by one's hope to be seen as a ______ (fill in the blank) in the eyes of others. There's a peer element at play, as well. As I mentioned earlier, I'm not very young, as unfortunate as that may be, so much of this is almost beyond my grasp.
Some seem to think that I dislike the sound of a BOV, which lead to the genesis of this thread. I'd never have a VTA BOV in my own Evo, because constantly hearing the noise would drive me up a wall. I don't mind other using them, as hearing the sound in the next lane typically provides some great entertainment during the course of a drive.
There are some very insightful posts in this thread. Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to add to the discussion.

What more could you want? I guess the alternative is to get a megaphone and yell "I have a gigantic *****," but the BOV does that without the need for megaphone batteries or you expending energy to say such words.

LOL funny stuff
I like my Bov. I've spent alot of money on my car. I like to hear it. Gets attention. Why are harleys so damn loud? People enjoy it allthough, some people thing its annoying. To each their own. Personally, if i wanted a quite car i would have bought a hybird. My evo sounds like a jet and i love it!
I think bov's double for performance and sound. I have a Turbo XS H-34 recirculating bov. I like it when I pass by people and they jerk their head in my direction to see what that was. It draws attention to the car. My friend had a HKS SSQV on his VR-4 and he actually had a lady ask him if he blew a tire when his car blew off. rofl.
but asking about why people like a bov sound is like asking why people like a nice loud supercharger whine...it's all basically personal preference.

:-) I think I'll start another thread and call it:
Why would someone want to call attention to his car?
Looking beyond the surface, I think that question was answered in this thread, as well.
