base flash vs. custom
base flash vs. custom
I Just got Crower 272 cams and im getting a FMIC in a few days. i have intake exhaust and test pipe and i will be installing the FMIC and cams shortly. i know i need a flash but i am kinda wondering what the difference is between a mail in and a custom...
im not asking for answers like "well one you mail in"
my question is more for people who have done both. what is the usuall gain in HP going from a base flash to a custom flash with the same mods, will i be holding my car back too much if i just get a mail-in with these mods? im sure warrtalon will definately shed some light.
also would i have to custom flash it after every mod such as intercooler piping? would i just go backward with a mail in reflash after i got a custom flash?

Tired of answering this question, sorry. Btw, a test pipe is part of the exhaust, so they don't need to be listed separately. Do you not have an MBC, BOV, and fuel pump? Why Crower cams and why an FMIC before other basic mods and not even a tune?
Some mods require a retune, but not all require one. IC piping wouldn't require one, because it doesn't make much of a difference besides looks.

sorry warrtalon,
i have a fuel pump and a boost controller also. i will be adding the FMIC the same time as the cams and fuel pump. i already have exhaust and intake. no BOV

Its pretty safe to say that not every car with the same mods acts in the same way. A mail in flash is generally made to the safest possibility with said mods. A custom tune will be made to work with exactly how your car is running, not a average. Also things like altitude and avg temps can be compensated for with a custom tune.
i understand all these points...what i am looking for is a few people who have had a mail in flash and later WITHOUT adding mods got a custom flash and what the difference was on the dyno sheet.

Ahh, well if you want to make a road trip to MN we have at least 3 shops in the Minneapolis area that can do it. But I would venture to guess there is probaly one or two shops between here and there. Good luck
i think your best bet is to install your own mods then get an eflash from Al (be patient w/eflash) if u expect 2 weeks youll be very pleased. plus u learn more working on your own stuff
yeah i have installed all my own parts...including all my suspension. the question isnt who to get a tune from, it is what the difference in HP between a base flash and a custom flash with close to the same mods.
