Do 2005 Evos have EDRs?

About 64 percent of model year 2005 cars were equipped with EDRs, according to NHTSA. EDR is a event data recorder or blackbox, it records driver inputs. Manufacturers are not required to notify that they are installed.

My buddy was being charged with vehicular assault. The prosecutors were going to use the "black box" as evidence around the crash; but when the ERD wouldn't work, my friends attorney used it as evidence that the cars safety system wasn't at full operating potential and my buddy got his charges dropped to reckless driving.

How about them apples?

A friend of mine that works for Geico told me that my EVO has it for sure.... He said all 05's, and I got mine right before the 9's came out, so I probably have it for sure...

oh hell yeah, if it can come out, its coming out, at least i want to know how to take it out in case of accident. this is legal because everyone has the right to refuse to self incriminate. which means you have the right to keep the blackbox in case it incriminates you. its probably in the ecu maybe? i guess just take that out in case of an accident?

On Chevy's they're located under the center console.

So maybe ours are somewhere near there ?

hmm well im by no means all knowledgable about this, and i have an 05 so it somewhat concerns me, but my best guess would be that with all the tuning and builds that happen on 05s this "black box" would have been discoverevd unless it was part of the ecu (which seems likely to me) and im assuming a flash or tune would pretty much take care of this.

i would like someone howerver with farely high knowledge or deffinitive evidence to clarify this
