Clunking noise while turning and on the throttle..

Hey guys I hope you can help me with this one:

I noticed this event awhile ago and now it's driving me insane! Yesterday while at the local autox event I noticed my car was making this clunk (this is the best way I can describe it) when I was making turns and while on the gas.

At first I thought this was the suspension causing me problems -- I put on Swift springs and a stiffer rear sway bar. I have checked and double checked the suspension and rear sway bar and I cannot find a thing that is loose.

I had my buddy drive the car yesterday, he too is an evo owner, and he thought it may be the front diff engaging or releasing. What is very odd about this noise is that when I do hear and feel this clunk in the cabin the car's handling goes out the door for a brief moment.

For instance, while making a large right hand sweeper yesterday I was pushing the car rather hard -- the tires were making that HIGH pitch squeel which is OK. Soon as I heard / felt the clunk the tires then went into that very loud howl which is bad. So I lift off the throttle and the tires regain traction.

This is an 05 with 9,500 miles. I was planning on changing the differentials and tranny fluids this coming weekend. I hope that solves the problem -- but if it doesn't, does anyone else have an idea what that might be?

Have you taken off your plastic undertray lately? I would getting a thumping sound on my car, and I could almost feel it at my feet. It turned out that the plastic in the fender was loose and that was what was causing the problem.

does it sound like a spring binding/release noise?

i have been chasing a noise around my front suspension with a similar description. although, thankfully, so far, it only seems to happen at lower speeds and hasn't really effected the performance.

I am staring to develop this noise, too. It only happens when there is a load on the front drivers side, like when making a right turn... then I get a clunk sound like its binding and releasing.

same thing here. While AutoXing, when I step on gas very hard, I get this clunk , but not all the time. Just once in a while. This is the only sound that comes out, I have no problem with loosing power, or not being able to turn, just a very quick clunk

my car is 05, GSR with 4600 miles. Everything is stock, except TBE and lower front engine mount.

I had that same problem on my 03. It was coming from the front passenger side at slow speeds turning the wheel right and when I turned the wheel going over a speed bump. I never found out what is was cause I traded it in.

Nah i'm pretty sure it's not the under tray. I haven't taken it off. It sounds as if it's coming from the passenger side -- i'm wonder if it's either the diff, a spring or possibly a blown shock I'm going to take this thing apart this weekend and see what i find out.

I just came from an autox today and it's still there...*sigh*

sounds like a CV joint to me, same thing happened to me on my 02 rsx right before i got rid of it for the evo. i believe its due to the car being lowered.

yeah i've checked the lugs, the cv boot -- everything seems in order. I change my wheels out when i autox and every one of them are torqued to 80 lbs when I race. Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

it sounds like the cv joint like donmeca suggested...not the cv boot kronik..the joint is bad, and there's no way of looking at it and telling if its bad, you have to replace it...but if it happens when the when your not turning the wheel hard, the diff might be gone..
