Gas in oil

as the title says i smell gas in the oil. I checked the oil with the Dip stick and it was steamy and a gasoline smell came out, and i sniffed the oil and it smelled like gas. I am a mechanic and know what oil smells like, and i know that when you smell gas in oil that means you got a problem with you piston rings. But is this normal. I only have 1500 miles.

If the oils hot it might smell like gas to you but its just the oil. If it was truly gas your car would not be running well if at all. Think about it. The injectors atomize not pour in the fuel going into the combustion chamber then it is ingnited. Theres no way that its getting past your rings without your car running like total crap if running at all. I think your fine

It Runs alright, but not too much power, i drove my freinds GSR and its way way faster. but there is definately gas in the oil. and if the Car is hot the oil smokes a little. and you smell gas pretty strong from the cap or dip stick tube. but I was wondering if this is part of the break in (which i doubt seriously). To me, from experince, my rings are gonna melt and it only gonna get worse.

No, you should definitely not have gas in your oil during break-in. I have, however, heard of the rings not seating themselves properly during break-in. Get your car back to mitsu ASAP.

send it out to blackstone to have it tested. They will analyze it for you and then you will know for sure.

Sounds to me that the rings did not seat in right.

Most FI motors have a bit of fuel blow by, but it shouldnt smell as strong as you describe.

Def send it into blackstone only costs $20 for the test, which is well worth it for some peace of mind. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Believe me i Know there is gas in the Oil for sure. I am going to take it to Bell mitsu. The reason i am Soo sure ther is gasoline in my oil is That oil shouldn't evaporate on the stick, therefore there should be no smoke or steam on the stick when the car is hot, but if i pull the dip stick out i see some smoke/steam rising from it and the tube. Also if i remove the cap i get the same effect, and no the car isn't overheating. I am calling bell mitsu in the morning.

If the oil is evaporation on the dipsitck, then there must barely be any oil left in it at all.

The level is good, and the oil isn't evaporating it is the Gasoline in the oil. by the Way bell mitsu says it normal, beacuase they use another petroleum product in the oil they put in from factory, The smell will go away in 2 to 3 oil changes. I already did one at 700 miles so i am gonna do another soon then the rest every 3000 starting at 3000 miles. Whew i hope they are correct.

Bump for the year old thread!

Every turbo car I've owned smelled like it had gas in the oil. My Evo 9 only has 7k miles on it and the oil has always smelled like gas too.

Hows yours doing 3SGTE?
