Secret way to add back 30-40HP????

In a few different posts, I have heard discussion of people at the dealerships talking about an easy mod to add back the 30-40HP that got lost on the US model. This is almost as contriversial as Bigfoot! Supposedly, mitsu techs get told about this mod at training.

Most have dispelled this as salesman BS.

I finally read one post that speaks to what this supposedly is. Here is the myth:
Between the exh manifold and the turbo, there are two gaskets. One is a smaller, more restricive opening. If you pull these gaskets and cut the opening to match the manifold and turbo--bingo-30-40Hp.

The questions:
Can anyone verify this?
Has anyone done this?
Does it even make sense?

It could be BS, but I had to ask and clear the air.

Thanks for your help.

That's the first time I've heard of this.. But I seriously doubt that would take away 30hp... Doesn't sound right...

i know this is true. my friend did it. the master techs told him they learned about it in their evo traing class. its what restricts the car from jdm spec for pollutions reasons. i am 110% certain this is true. i even felt the power after it was done. nice hp increase. the master techs told him 30 40 horses. you probably heard this from me originally. this was a mits secret kinda and they werent supposed to give this info to the public but my friend worked there a couple months ago in parts and was friends with all of them so what the hell. now we all know.

The diagram of the exhaust manifold and turbocharger assembly on www.mitsubi****echinfo.com shows only one gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbo. If someone has proof otherwise (i.e. pictures) then post it up!

um no, i know that this is true. no need to prove it. i may be wrong on exact details but a gasket was cut on the turbo and it added hp. you figure out the rest.

Sounds like nut sauce. Although I won't dismiss the idea. Someone needs proof.

I have a hard time believing this without proof.. However restrictor plates are commonly used in racing to "Dial in" things.. so it is entirely possible that a restriction was introduced to reduce the HP (and/or emissions) If this was the method used to detune the car (usually the 300hp mark is that magic threshold for insurance premiums) It really could explain why the car generally runs unecessarily rich.. Ya think?

Somehow I do think the Tuners would have found this already.. lets hear them chime in on their findings..
