Gran Turismo and the Lancer Evolution

Why do I keep hearing people say that the Lancer Evolution was the "star" of the Gran Turismo series? Case in point:http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...4-17-evo_x.htm Maybe I did not play the games enough, but was there anything in the game that made the EVO stand out over cars like the Skyline GT-Rs, WRX STis, Lotus Elise, or any other car that was in the games that was not at the time available in the US? The fact that Mitsubishi even showed shots from the game in their commercial shows that quite a few people associate these two things. Did I miss the part of the games where it says "Gran Turismo starring the Lancer Evolution" or what? I guess what I am getting at is that I don't see the link between the EVO and Gran Turismo other than the fact that the EVOs were in the game and maybe someone can tell me where it came from.

Spot on. The evo in the game was just that, another car. It wasn't even a great car in the game, it was just another car.

This is all marketing gimmicks, as usual.

I think they are just infering the relationship between the Evo (or the STi, Skyline R34 etc) and the Gran Turismo series of games. For many people in the US, these games were their first exposure to these and many other teriffic off-market cars. Look back at the American auto mags from 1993-1998 and see if you can find a single article about said cars...

I don't think they are infering that the Evo is the best/hottest/most popular car in that series of games, they are infering that that is the limit or catlyst of many people's exposure to these imported autos.

Ok, let me ask you this. What was the most versions of a car in the game? I believe that the Evolution had more versions of the car in the game, than almost any, if all of them.

Plus, the designer of the game test drove all the cars to work out the Physics. After driving the Evolution, he bought one for himself.

If you upgrade the Evo in the game, it can hang with almost all the other cars, assuming the driver is good.

I am going to have to disagree with you there... the Evo was my first fast car in that game but it was very quickly replaced with the Camaro Trans-Am car, maxed out GTR, MB CLK GT, Toyota GT1, and finally the F1 cars. It is a great begining car, but the max HP just isn't there.....

i always had the best luck w/ the 3000gt when using "normal cars"...get like what close to 1000 hp outta it...and the skyline was a close second...but yeah if you cannot drive...its doesnt matter what you have...i know the evo on gt2k2 sucks...you cannot even compete w/ it on the tougher tracks...

The EVO is the best all around car in the game period and for those who say it didn't have top horsepower. Stop playing the superspeedway and oval circuits and get with the program. Try an EVO VI TME on Complex String and see if anyone can hang with you. Even the Godzilla Skylines, Merry Xmas!

You obviously aren't that adept at counting. j/k

Nismo 400R
Nismo GT-R LM Road Car
Nismo Skyline GT-R R-Tune
Nissan Pennzoil Nismo GT-R JGTC
Nissan Skyline Calsonic JGTC
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II R32
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II R34
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec R33
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec R34
Nissan Skyline GTS-t Type M(R32)
Nissan Skyline Loctite Zexel GT-R JGTC

11 Skylines in GT3. If you look at GT2, plenty of cars outnumber the EVO, including the Silvia, Impreza, Skyline, etc.

I have done extensive testing on the "Complex Strings" course with the Evo, Suby 22B, and Skyline R34, all both stock and modded. I spent many hours setting up each car the way I like them, but the Evo always came up short of the 22B and Skyline. The Skyline R34, in that game, is extremely well balanced, and neutral, compared to the Evo. Not to mention more power. The 22B was impressive as well, but not as fast as the Skyline (close though). The Evo was no match to these 2 cars.

Of course these are not the fastest cars in the game, but it was just a comparison between those 3.

It's been a year since I stopped playing the game, but I can try to dig up my setup sheets with lap times if needed

hahahhahahha - you didn't get any of the race cars huh? less weight, smaller, more horse power... they Evo is great (in GT and in real life) but it just can't compete with dedicated racecar chassis.

I'm talking normal street cars in the game, not exotic race cars.

1) I'm not talking about race cars. If you wanna do that, count the FTO and others for .
Out of that list, I count 8 that qualify for what I was referring to.

2) I'm not talking about GT2, I'm talking about GT3.

On tight courses the EVO worked great...
besides dedicated race cars.

and other courses I loved using the Supra.

As for the rally stages EVO all the way!
