I think if you ever plan to race at an event, a kill switch is needed. I know for drag racing it is required. Not so sure auto x/road racing.

I agree with Joe. I have had the same battery in my VIII for about 2 years and I have no worries about winter start up. This will be the first winter for the battery since my VIII has been stored every winter before. The battery drops 20-22 lbs off the nose of the car, not to mention a high point on the car for that weight, so it helps lower the center of gravity a bit too.

I have been using the Odyssey with my PPI battery kit for 1.5 years....no problems at all. I haven't even had to charge my battery as my car sits most of the winter! I couldn't be happier!

I've had no issues using the Hawker/Genesis mini-batteries in my cars. They have worked fine, even in the dead of winter. I just sold one of mine that had been sitting around for about 2 years unused. Charged it up, and it's still going strong.

I don't know how your car is set up, but I've never had a problem accessing my engine, or finding my battery in its stock location.
My hood opens just like my trunk, minus the additonal latch.

Well, I suppose it depends on what your intentions are.

If you want to make room to plumb your turbo/intake more efficiently or if the stock kit is getting in the way, then there's probably not a lot of alternatives and therefore it isn't a waste of money.

You probably loose a very small amount of weight and for how little it weighs, it's not going to much affect the weight dist. on the car (~10kg on a 1,500kg car) no matter where you move it.

I think you confused yourself because I never mentioned anything about having problems finding the battery . I merely said it was easier to open the trunk since one less step is needed.

the odyssey pc-680 is widely used outside the EVO world too and has a great rep. I've used one with never a problem.

Funny thing is that with BMW's (e36 and e46) its not consider "relocation" because its where the factory puts its....but honestly its not as "safe" as alot of the rule books says it has to be. Ie Box,vented, kill switch.... blah blah blah.

Installed Stock location W/o plastic cover ..nice vents and sealed box huh.

Now on the E46 i know they put a battery starter only disconnect where you would normaly find the battery under the hood. But no way to disco anything else in case of roll over besides getting into the trunk and removing the cables there.

but honestly the guy said "Relocate"..as in shifting weight back on our 60/40 cars

One reason why some move the battery to the right rear is for extra weight over that wheel = extra traction for a RWD car. For an AWD car like an Evo it doesn't do much other than help the F/R weight distribution a little bit. But overall you're better off simply going with a mini battery if you can find one that is durable - and there are plenty of those.

when you run a battery from the rear (or even an alky kit) how are people running it from the trunk? Is it through the cabin area or between the outside skin of the body and inside?

had it tested, came back with a code

F03 internal open cell/ sulfated condition
Oh... I got this error while trying to charge a mini battery using a standard charger.. same exact error (must be a craftsman or sears charger)

Anyway, I put a battery tender on the battery which deep-cycled it and it has since recharged fully and has been recovered, has been working fine since then.. I ordered an odessey battery a few days before, and now I have a backup battery since the recovered battery has been fine.
