To get into the 11's??

What do you guys think would be a good setup to get into the 11's without doing internals and without sacrificing too much driveability. So far I have...

1. Tenzo-R intake
2. Greddy Type S BOV
3. Greddy profec e-01 boost controller boosted 19psi to redline
4. Buschur downpipe
5. Buschur Hi Flo cat
6. Buschur Cat Back
7. Greddy e-manage(waiting to be put on and dyno tuned)

I was thinking these further mods would get 11's easily..

1. Pruven Intercooler upgrade w/ fan and cooling kit
2. IC pipe kit
3. Exhaust header

Im considering doing the turbo apgrade that a shop is developing right now... but will have to wait on the price. If anyone has any input i'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm kind of skeptical about the Tenzo-R product. Other than that the list is a good place to start. Tuning the car correctly for those parts is the key though. Just throwing them on won't get you far. Make sure you have some money to invest in dyno time.

Other things you may consider.

Weight saving! Buy parts that will reduce the weight. There are some items that will be just as cost effective as adding 10hp.

Water/Alchohol/Propane injection. These systems are cheap and easy to use. It would be a much more cost effective way of reducing intake temps than upgrading the intercooler. The stock intercooler is damn good, and upgrading isn't going to net you much. An injection system would really be worthwhile.

Clutch...it won't hold up to the 11's.

turbo upgrade would definitely get you 11's. your setup as mentioned is one that a lot of cars are running, but i have yet to see or hear about 11's. anybody know of any stock turbo 11sec evo's? are there any?

The set up you listed above is good for about 320 wheel hp - in my estimation - just a tad less than what we need to do 11's

alfried - you should get some incar video of your car, that would be awesome. so we can get the feeling/sound of +80hp. whats next on your list of mods? external wastegate or exhaust manifold?

Yank the cat. Run some race gas. Turn up the boost to 23psi. Tune the e-manage with the race gas.

Drive like hell.

Try that before anything else.

After that, I'd look at a set of HKS 264 cams.

That would definitely get you the power to get there.

You wouldn't believe the amount of power the cams add.

I don't consider cams to be internals, really.

I just swapped 264 cams into my engine 2 weeks ago. The change in power was dramatic. Considering that the Evo has everything that my car has, I suspect that the Evo could really benefit greatly from a cam swap.

Ive been considering the cams... but I dont want to sacrifice any driveability... have you had any daily driving problems since installing them... (shaky idles, weaker low end power, etc...)

My engine doesn't have balance shafts, so it shakes and vibrates anyway.

I have my idle set at 950RPMs in the ECU, so the idle quality didn't change much at all for me. But the 264s are such a mild cam upgrade, that I can't believe it would change the idle much at all.

I did lose some low end power. But it wasn't that bad. I'd say that below 2500RPMs is where I lost power. You have to give it a bit more gas when backing out of parking spots up-hill, etc... After that, it is all gain. And where you really gain power and torque is above 6000RPMs. It is dramatic!

Whereas I feel that cams should be one of the last mods that an Eclipse owner does (after the turbo, front mount intercooler, exhaust, etc...), I feel that cams might be one of the best mods to do first on an Evo (well, after the basic bolt-ons).

The best part about the cams is how consistent they made my car, power-wise. Run after run at the track, as I tweaked the fuel and timing, my car just got faster and faster. I used to get the odd pass that gave me a low mph. Not anymore.

And the Evo has shorter intake manifold runners, so the change might be even more dramatic.

I'll have to look up the specs for the Evo's cams and see if they are the same as the cams that were stock in my car.
