Question Car wash issues?

Is anyone else here paranoid about driving your Evo through the carwash? The water spraying into the engine bay through the vent in the hood seems like a very bad idea. When I did it and all this steam was coming out and I got really worried...

What about the wing and those spinning brushes? I have heard that they can tear parts off of your car.

Anyone have any issues? Advice? I don't have a good place to wash it by hand...

wash it by hand....lettting water on a hot block is hard on it, and the brushes could hurt the wing

Just keep it dirty, it gives it character, and makes it less desirable to steal.

You should hand wash if you can. You never know if the car wash will always remember to disable the top brush.

Do it yourself!!

Never use an automatic car wash unless it's "touch free". All that the brushes do is take dirt form one car/truck and scrape your paint as you pass through. You might as well wipe your paint with sand paper. And if your using the maual coin washes, NEVER use the tire brush on your paint!!! It may look clean to get the dirt off, but you'll never be able to get scratches or swirl marks out.

There is a touch free at the gas station a few miles away. Maybe I could make some kind of cover for the vent...

I have not had any issues with too much water getting into the engine compartment from the touch-free washes. Have a towel and just towel dry your engine compartment after the wash.

What are you going to do when it rains and that water gets through the vent?

LOMG, its steaming.

Come on guys, it will not hurt the engine if water gets through the vent. Does it rain where you live? Yes. Do you drive in the rain? Yes.

I would wash it at a manual coin operated one....and if you do use the brush that they have spray it with the high pressure wand to spray out all the dirt and grime.
