Exclamation Hmm...Interesting observations after electronical boost gauge install

Hey guys...

I spend a couple hours today installing the new AEM Digital Electronic Boost Gauge that I purchased along with an Autometer Single Gauge Single Steering Wheel Pod. I would like to say that it is a HELL of a gauge and functions perfectly. It seems to be right on with accuracy too

I installed the boost gauge and put the vacuum hose through the hole in the firewall behind the glove box. When I started the car up, I noticed something interesting. When I gave the car gas, I could hear the boost pressure / vacuum from under the glovebox. This is where my pressure sensor is installed. It is not a boost leak though. It holds boost perfectly at reads at 23 psi just like expected.

Do you guys think that it is just the sound of all the pressure since it is close to me in the cabin or is it possibly a problem (leak even though pressure is being read correctly)? Could it be because that I did not replace the grommet and there is a open hole in the firewall that I am just hearing something from the engine bay that I couldnt of heard before because it was insulated?

I installed the gauge with an Autometer Single Gauge Steering Wheel pod. Fitament was ok. I am just curious to know if anyone has ever experenced rubbing and friction of the gauge pod when turning the steering wheel? It also seems not to be long enough on both sides; has anyone experienced that too? How did you fix these problems?

Thanks for your help as always because I am very eager to get it looking as nice as it performs!

re: autometer pod

Mine did the same thing, but I was able to re-adjust how it sits on the factory cover. Since it's cold, the tape doesn't grip too hard, so you can use a wide screw driver to pry the sides of the cover to release the tape and reposition it.

you probably didnt use zip ties on all your vaccum hose connections. Go bad use zip ties on all connection, your'll have no sound.

Boost gauges and sensors will still read the boost you want (ex. 22lbs) even when there is a leak.

^^^^^Ditto, I would definately recommend using the zipties on the hoses. You would be surprised. Try that and let us know something.

The sad part is that there are 4 zip ties already. IDK what the problem is. Even if there is a small leak that shouldnt affect anything such as performance or reading in a neg way right?

Yes it will. The turbo just works harder to compensate. You will still make the indicated target boost but the turbo will be pushing more air to make the same amount of boost.

(of course this is dependant on where you mounted the T for the boost signal)

Yeah there's a thread posted in the last few days chronicalling the nightmare that loose or leaking hoses can do to your engine with an EBC, in essence kill it.

Just because it's reading the correct boost doesn't mean there isn't a leak, it just means it's probably working harder to reach that psi.
