Fully built HKS Evo with $20000 just runs high11's
I seen it, I think it's a waste of money personally. Yea it has a nice list of mods, but it just seems the car was thrown together. High 400's for $20,000? bleh...
Plus it's stripped down, I just can't see spending all that and loosing some of the luxuries in the process and making it look like a gutted honda.
Too each his own.

I don't know if you guys noticed but the car magazine Modified has a first page Evo special with a fully built HKS Evo.
Among the most significant mods this car has a 2.3 l motor by HKS and a Turbokit from HKS as well and a long list of aftermarket mods that in my quick estimation it runs above $20000 however they managed a humble 11.87sec 1/4 mile.
It just caught my attention that a big manufacturer like HKS fell short to provide a "fast" car specially considering the amount of money they put into. Many people ran high 11's with budgets bellow $1500. This HKS Evo put down more than 450whp..are they choosing bad drivers for these type of test?

If you have the time , please stop in a store and read the magazine.

If that is the case, I find HKS to be the dumbest aftermarket manufacturer out there. Why would you want to build a car and have reservations about your own reliability? why would you overspent soo much money on a car when you can only use 60% of the power in order to be "safe and reliable"
What is the point of putting a 2.3l stroker kit, bigger IC,turbikit etc etc if you can't really maximize its potential. Sorry but I am not buying it, It does not make sense. When a big company like HKS builts a car they better be the best accordingly to their expenses.
Running such car at 17-18psi it could fell victim to much faster Evo 8 and Evo 9 cars which run faster and more reliably without the fear of breaking.
In reality a Evo 8 or a Evo 9 with a few bolt ons could physically equal that HKS Evo running at 17psi. You can safely and reliably built a Evo 9 with some proven bolt ons that don't even involve ,bigger displacement, turbo, intercooler, injectors or ECU, just basic bolt ons.. and remember most of us drive our Evos 10 times more than a HKS Evo show room /built car.
No excuse!!

It is marketing pure and simple. HKS overbuilds the car and sandbags it for what it is worth, if anyone comes close they start pushing buttons. When they win it is in the magazine and people see what the car had on it and assume you need all those parts to dominate the competition and at the same time be unbreakable. Of course we know better, but what about all those readers that don't? They go out and buy a bunch of expensive parts from HKS. That is the reason companies enter these things in the first place, to showcase their stuff. That is why I said don't ever read too much into magazines.
i am pretty sure it had this turbo

how come no one mentions the drag times amateur puts down is cheating since its on a relatively debris free and traction prepped while the competition was done on the infield section of a road course track.
also as said, large portion of tuners are not tuning for durability but quick drag launches and highway pulls. this evo is tuned for roadracing which requires a much more conservative tune and boost levels.

I see the tuning world turning into cash greedy bungholes just wanting your money. Their concept is if u want their crap u have to pay. Otherwise you get some crap that's made in somewhere close to martianland etc. This in their term is inferior equipment (kinda like the nike golf set that tiger dumped after he found out that titleist still wins him games). No way in hell are we average joes gonna put down 20 Gs for that sorry performance. That crap is worth 5 grand at most
I think the car's made to do others than dragging in straight line. Give them some credit.

One thing that bothers me about HKS is that they used a dry carbon fiber body kit on an Evo 8 which can easily swallow 305mm wide tires, but they only put in 265mm wide tires. What's the point of using a super expensive wide body kit if you are not going to use it to it's full potential. You can put 265mm wide tires within the stock fenders. At maximum you can fit 285mm wide tires in the stock fenders after rolling and pulling them. The idea is to use parts to their top most potential, but without breaking them.
Other JDM Evo builders like Team Cyber Evo do this also. At the widest they will only use 265mm wide tires, but they can actually run more, especially with the wide body kits they use. Damn man, they can just stick with stock fenders and put 285s.
If they run the widest possible tire they can achieve faster times. The reason why they don't do that is beyond me.
This just boggles my mind!
I am also referring to time attack competitions and not drag racing.

I'm going to bite the bullet and say...who gives a crap? I find other things more intriguing than finding out some big aftermarket companies spending $20k in their car...*shrug*
How is it a big waste of money...HKS built it with their own products, Im pretty sure the price tags you see are not how much they actually spend...and its HKS most JDM companies are not into DRAG RACING...lol, They probably built it to handle pretty damn good along with some speed! The turbo is not that big that its running reallly really crappy times, maybe the drives sucks a little? who cares..Like someone said earlier its built for road courses, not everyone tries to be the best at the drag strip!
