Sometimes, is more on the location of those weight saving. Most effective weight saving is on the rims, and the least effective weight saving is on the exhaust system. I think everyone knows the logic of it.

The energy wasted to move 1 lbs the inertia of those rims, is greatly more than moving 1 lbs exhaust dead weight sitting at the lowest CG of the car, agree?

your right to a certain extent... i took test pipe and catback off to see the difference it felt really good shifting.

The unsprung weight and rotating weight are number one on the 'hit parade' to improve. Wheels, rotors, even tires are great areas to drop weight. Quicker acceleration and better handling. Since the tires are at the extreme end of the rotating mass, a 2 or 3 lb savings can be felt on the butt dyno.

Not to any extent. He IS right in saying that rotational mass has a greater impact than stationary mass. Also, what do you mean by felt good shifting? Wasn't the purpose of you taking off your exhaust to test the weight difference?

I'm doing this on my car, switched to lighter MR BBS wheels and got some lightweight 2 pc floating rotors all around.

yup yup...absolutely, paying extra $40 per tire for a Michelin Pilot A/S ($198)compare to Bridgestone RE960AS ($157) for weight saving of 24 lbs compare to 28 lbs, so big big big big big difference on acceleration out of corners, even thought both rated same grip.

To be honest, tons of people missed out alot from factoring the weight of tires, best modification you can made without voiding any WARRANTY ahahah

stock evo 8 wheels - 21 pounds
SSR - 15ish
6x4 = 24 lb savings for 1600ish = 67 dollars/lb again rotating unsprung mass

mini battery
20 lb savings 150 dollars tops = 7.5 dollars/lb
Just thought I would mention that lots of people under-estimate the performance advantage of lighter rotors. Not only is it less unsprung weight (better for suspension and handling) but it is less ROTATING weight that the engine no longer has to spin. Many people notice wheel horsepower increases on the dyno after get a set of lighter rotors. This is a very good mod to invest in (too bad they wear out so quickly =)

what do you mean a certain extent... he's totaly correct i forgot the formula to it but every pound you loose off rotating weight is mulitplied by a certain number( i think its 20). and is equal to stationary weight so it makes a big deal.

3000 lbs.....won't be a daily driveable car anymore, have a friend cut out the rear and front impact bar, save a great deal like 80lbs but you really need to be desperate to cut weight by risking your own safety

^uhhh, if you are refering to the crash beams, both of them combined don't weigh 80 pounds. in fact, both of them combined weigh less then half that.

Ok, I'm glad to see that this thread has had some good use. Important stuff when it comes to whp and handling. I've weighed mine and w/o spare, I'm at 2713 lbs. Totally street driveable, full interior, but it is also w/o A/C, since I won't be driving it in the HEAT where I would be using it.
