If you know of a specific mini-battery AND tray (just part of it won't give the DIRECT replacement weight) let us know the brand and where to get it. I've also purchased the mini-battery for a vw in the past, but it wasn't in a kit. I had to create the tray, hold downs myself, so it wasn't really available to the general public. I'd like to keep the parts that are readily available to anyone.

Carbon driveshafts are nice, but are a little pricey and tend to crack. They do indeed decrease weight (rotational weight) and also flex when under torque so they act as a kind of buffer (or torsional spring) so your drivetrain doesn't poop itself when you launch. I highly recommend aluminum driveshafts over carbon (for reliability and financial reasons).

i've got another one to add to the list:

the ralliart twin plate clutch w/flywheel weighs 21.7lb

the carbonetics carbon twin plate w/flywheel weighs 21.8lb

the exedy twin w/flywheel weighs 28ish

the stock clutch w/flywheel weighs more then all of them. haha i'll get the weight tonight along with my coilovers.

the clutch mass may be sprung weight, but it is still rotational, and it rotates at your rpm speed, so upwards of 8k rpm. thats spinning REALLY fast. plus it has a relatively large intertia, so a reduction there is really felt. the clutch weight savings is going to be far more effective then axles or driveshafts because the driveshafts are rotating at the same rate as the wheels... which at 170mph is 2200ish RPM at 30 mph it is 400 wheel RPMs and 5200 clutch RPMs in 1st gear.

Good comments sonicnofadz and KevinD, If you have advertised prices on these and stock weights, I'll post up the differences.

My battery weighs 13 Lbs. That makes a savings of 22Lbs over stock. Cost was $34.65

That makes a $/Lbs ratio of - 1.575

What kind of mods do you have. Wonder how it would perform under heavy load? Such as double fuel pumps, larger injectors, higher spark demands, etc? How long have you had it? What did you do for a tray? thanks

I have a single Walbro. Stock Ignition, Stock Injectors.

I have owned the battery for over a year but it has been in the evo for only 6-7 Months. Before that I used to use it to jump start my other cars

For the tray I cut a piece of aluminum and then I threaded the stock tie bars so that the threads go further down. Then I just put the aluminum over the battery and with the rods going through the aluminum and put two nuts to tighten it down. You can cut the battery tray and place the battery sideways to make more room if you want, I just did not care to. I left the battery tray stock.

This pic was taken for another reason but if you look you can see the top of the battery, the aluminum plate, and the tie downs.
