i think certain things are bought to save weight but alot of the more expensive things people just buy for looks with no intention of weight saving. but thats just my opinion.

Huh? Mine is 3069 with 1/2 a tank of gas (official weight taken during corner balance). That is with very minimal weight savings by adding parts such as coilovers, small battery, nothing in the trunk, 2 piece rotors, lighter exhaust. Other than that I still have full pw, pm, pl, ac, all my sound deadening, full interior, etc. I could EASILY have mine in the upper 2900lb range and be a very good street car. Mine isn't an RS either, it's a regular '03 GSR.
BTW, I also still have all my crash beams, braces, etc.

Sometimes, when all of the easy stuff has been replaced, then the only places left are the ones that few people are willing to do. The last 100 lbs are much more expensive than the first 100. Personally, I dislike the CF look and will more than likely paint them to match the car. When you spend this much money, it's not for looks but for functionality. This thread was started so the 'value' of lighter parts could be compared.

By the way, I DO agree that sometimes, people buy expensive things, just for the 'bling' factor.

The rotating weight savings are very important. Then comes weight savings at the highest point of center of gravity which means the roof. These are 2 focus areas in the MR and SE that Mitsubishi engineers decided were most important. What's the weight difference between an MR and GSR? Minimal right? But the performance numbers (Slalems/Around turns) are due to the areas of weight savings themselves.

Please post actual verified weights, not guesses. Guessing serves no purpose when comparing one product to another. If you can, do the weighing on digital scales, if necessary. I'll continue to update the original post with the results. Thanks

many of these numbers are VERY optimistic. the rear antenna doesn't weigh a half a pound. nor does the hood grill weigh 3 pounds.

and the rear crashbeam delete with the jdm rear bumper isn't a 30 pound weight savings either.
