How much did you pay to save weight?

I thought it would be interesting, in light of all of the threads concerning exhaust weights, to find out how much is the cost of saving a pound of weight worth?
I mentioned in a different thread that Seibon sells carbon fiber doors, decks and hoods. They're expensive! To save 1 pound of weight with the doors and deck would cost $55 at slightly discounted prices. Comparing an $800 exhaust system to a $250 ebay exhaust system will save 12-15 lbs. So that means that 800-250=$550 extra dollars spent for the weight savings. That's about (550/15=$36.67 per pound of savings. Obviously that's a better buy if you're saving weight, than the Seibon doors and deck. How about seats. To buy cf seats costs about 1100 for NG seats. Since I understand that stock IX seats weigh about 43 lbs (not sure about that) and the NG seats weigh about 15 (w/brackets) thats 28lbs saved at a cost of $550 each. Or, in other words, $19.64 per pound saved. What did you buy for the purpose of weight savings and how much did it cost. Wheels are expensive to save 5-8 pounds. Curious if we can come up with a 'WHAT IS IT WORTH TO SAVE WEIGHT' thread.

Basically Free:
Zip-ties can be had for a couple of dollars per pack of 100
remove all the stuff in the trunk 37 lb
remove floor mats 4 lbs
remove back seats 10 lbs for the bench 15 more for the back. (unverified)
remove rear seat belts 2 lbs. (Rear Safety compromised)
remove spark plug cover .5 lbs, antenna .5 lbs.
Rear fuel tank evaporator 8.5 lbs (courtesy Buschur Racing)
Rear bumper support 17 lbs (BR) (Safety Compromised)
Interior carpet padding 17.5 lbs (BR)
Air Conditioner system 29.6 lbs (BR)
Front Impact Bar 13 lbs (safety compromised)

this thread is pointless, all the exhaust threads arent about saving weight there about gaining horse power. this thread is just going to be closed or deleted.

Question is, how much did you pay, just to save weight, How much was it and how much did it save. With that info, we can come up with an average cost per pound saved. By scaling the list, we can have a cheapest to highest cost per pound of weight saved. Thought it would be helpful for those on budgets trying to figure which change should be next for the 'Best bang for the buck'.

What? Why would they close this thread? It's definitely a LOT better of a topic than "Will my AMS-style eBay intercooler work just as good as the real deal, yo?" and "OMFG I just saw some pix of the Evo X!!!1!!one! "

Seriously, what was the point of your post? Do you think that horsepower and R/T are all that people use to become quick? If that was the case, then why does almost every pro racer have a stripped down car? I wonder if Curt Brown or John Shepherd think that weight savings got them to where they are today? Every bit counts, and unless you're one of the guys with a huge corporate sponsorship, you've got to justify how you spend your money. I don't think that anyone would want to close a thread that listed how much horsepower you gain for each mod (rough example: $20 per HP for an exhaust, but $50 per HP for a turbo kit).

To add my "weight savings" costs to this thread...

Zip-ties can be had for a couple of dollars per pack of 100.

They weigh virtually nothing.

Metal bolts can be heavy.

When bolts are removed, they leave holes that can usually be filled by the zip-ties.

baer disks:

front stock - 22lb each
front baer - 15lb each
14 pound savings for 700 dollars: 50dollars/lb but thats rotating unsprung mass, not sprung mass like everything else mentioned.

SSR comps in 17x9
stock evo 8 wheels - 21 pounds
SSR - 15ish
6x4 = 24 lb savings for 1600ish = 67 dollars/lb again rotating unsprung mass

mini battery
20 lb savings 150 dollars tops = 7.5 dollars/lb

This makes a lot of sense to me. I'll definitely consider lighter rotors when the time comes. Is their durability comparable to stock? I expect that it's not, but I'm not familiar with the product.
