i would think on dry pavement, the LSD would be the noticeable difference between the 03-04 and 05+, not the ACD.

You're probably right. I need a lot more seat time in the Evo. It'll take me at least a couple of years to truly feel comfortable running the car.

Did you make a typo when you said you're a chickenshat at heart but yet you push the limits with each run? I would think pushing it with each run would be the last thing a chickenshat would do, but maybe I misunderstood you.
<grin> I felt like I should display some modesty in light of the discussion.

Anyway, I come in as hot as possible and try to brake as late as possible on every turn, but this is what leads to understeer, especially when you have the stock suspension with very grippy race tires, since the suspension gets overloaded. This is why I see so much understeer, because I'm trying to see how long I can stay on throttle before braking. Once I find that point (if I do), then I let off the gas and hit the brake a split second earlier in hopes of finding that razor's edge. I'm not good enough to do it on every turn perfectly, but that's what I try to achieve.
I understand what you're saying about the tires. Coming from FWD, I try to avoid the weight transfer from braking into a corner and the associated understeer, and accelerate most of the way through the turn. Depending on my entry speed and throttle control, I either see a 4-wheel drift of some oversteer. I try hard to work on smoothness and consistency. I've had more DNFs than I can count, but once in a while everything falls into place. Really, I could use some good instruction.

I'm almost positive that it's the sunroof and the flex of the body, but that's my input/experience on owning both cars.

I have an 03 that gets beat on constantly. I upgraded to the Ralliart front limited slip and there was a night and day difference. The FLSD gets top honors from me.

That being said I attend quite a few events where drivers trade cars for a few laps. I've had the opportunity to drive several different evo's on the same track on the same day all with various levels of mods. Stock for stock the 06 is leaps and bounds better than my 03 w/flsd. I think Mitsu has improved the EVO from year to year. They may not discuss all the "little things" but all those tid bits add up to something better than before.

I hope everyone understands that there's alot more to do with the feel of a car than ACD and LSDs though. Changing tires, alignment, air pressure, weight reduction, even pavment differences can make a car feel loose.

I think there is more to ACD than what everyone believes. I would give it a thumbs up over my non-ACD ralliart rig.

Isn't the ACD prone to breaking past a certain power level?

I bought an 03 Rally Red evo VIII new. Was just a GSR.
Thren got an 05 Wicked White, SSL. The moment I drove the 05 I noticed the difference like night and day. The steering wheel felt tighter and I was able to keep the front pointed where I wanted while the power is being put down...

The Limited Slip thats in the 05 is a much stronger unit over the spyder gears...

After installing a more aggressive clutch in the 03's with the stock TC. You will find the next weakest link which is the spyder gears...

I dont think anybody can/will drive a street car hard enough to experience the effects of a sun-roof equipped car. It may add more to polar movements, but I doubt its enough you can actually feel. And how may I ask did you get an 05 VII

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but the ACD has NOTHING to do with oversteer/understeer in the CT9A chassis. The presence of the front LSD has everything to do with it.

Going from my 2003 Evo VIII w?sunroofto my 2006 Evo IX, the IX handles much more soundly and competant, plus it doesn't have the sunroof.

i did 50k on an 03 non-ACD 8 and 85k on an 05 ACD 8. the 03 does what my 93 LRV does. while making long turns the non ACD evo is always forcing the rear wheels to rotate at the same rate as the fronts and the Viscous Coupler Diff slowly but surely steers the car further and further into the turn cuz it thinks the front wheels are losing traction.

ACD completely eliminated that wierdness cuz it operates like an open diff in turns. i couldn't find any reason the non ACD evo was better.
