I see most people having rust issues are those with 03 EVO's. Has Mitsubishi improved their corrosion protection with newer models? Just curious, as I live in NYC, and just picked up an 06 MR.

Not sure I follow... are you having rust problems on an '05 or not?

Ahh... not good. Where is it rusting? Chassis? Body panels?

Unfortunate.. I was under the impression that corrosion protection on Mitsubishi's were fairly good.

Is that the only place where you've noticed rust? What about the control arms, chassis, engine bay, etc?

I went throught this same sh*t!!!! I live in central NY and started to get rust around the door sills... I tried to get it fixed on warrenty but mitsu basically told me I would have to wait until the rust ruined the panel before they would do anything. I touched it up the best I could but I was still heated about it!

i've noticed it in other places as well...where the air box meets the front bumber area in the engine bay, where the rubber bump stops hit the area around the tail lights. suprisingly there has not been much rust at all on the bottom of the car. it is true what mitsubishi says about not fixing anything until it completely rusts through. i guess i *****ed enough to get them to fix the spoiler though.

not the actual hood itself. what i meant is the engine bay and what not.

what bugs me the most is that mitsu keeps sending me these letters to warn me that my warranty is expiring and that i can extend it by paying so and so amount of money. they want me to pay them to ignore my problems for 3 more years!?!?!

I have a friend with an 03 thats rusting in the same spot, and at the bottom of the quarter pannels (right where the newer models have the plastic coverings). I can only and hate to imagine what theyre going to look like ten years from now (if not taken care of).

I've got some rust on my 06 and it looks almost like oxidation of some sort on the outside of the black door edging on my drivers side.
