Evo Rusting!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i live in NY and weather just started to break. so yesterday me and my buddy decided to wash our cars. so after i was done i was drying it off and i noticed some rust!!!!!!! WTF??? right where my wing is attached it is starting to rust.

so i called mitsu service but they were all closed but one of the sales guys said he thinks the 2003's have a 7 year paint/rust warrente. so tomorrow i am going to call them and find out what the deal is.

little back round, bought the car used 2 years ago with 4000 miles on it. it was like new. as it sits it has 27,000 miles on it. so i dont drive this thing alot but it is my daily. i wash it and wax it enough for this not to happen. its waxed every 4 months durning nice weather and washed every weekend. now i also have tryed to have mitsu fix the clear on my wing and my breaks but they actually told me that i used an abrasive material on the wing and thats y it is pealing. i told the rep to F off to his face and left, so to say the least i dont think he likes me. haha. i dont think he will remember me but what kind of action do u think i have against these guys? i will bring there *** to court if they deny me for the rust.

has anyone here had this happen?also anyone know the factory warrente on a 2003 evo?

If I had to bet on anything, I would bet that the bolts coming out of the bottom of the wing are whats rusting, and that all you need to do is take it off, wipe the rust off the car, and change out those bolts with some home depot specials. There is no way for rust to start if there is paint there, so im thinking its those unfinished bolts and the rust is running with the water slowly as it melts off your car.

ooooo no no no. there is rust starting to show under the paint. its crazy. its not the rust from the bolts. can physically touch the rust.

Time for a new trunk lid then. Thats pretty ****ty, I guess we can go back to my orignal theory and say that where the holes in the trunk lid are for the wing, some water and salt got into them, and caused the rust to come out from inside of it. Good luck, at the worst, CF trunk.

Sorry to hear that man. Our local Mitsu rep is impossible to talk to. He's like the guy in the Capital One commercial that just says no regardless of the situation. I hope it works out!

I had a significant rust issue in the door jams and door sills with my '03. The first dealer said that the warrantee wouldn't do anything until there was rust through the body metal. The second dealer agreed that it would be stupid to wait until the rust had progressed far enough to perf the body. They did a "one time, good faith repair" and repainted the entire door jam/sill surfaces under warantee. They earned my thanks and respect for not being the typical dealership service dicks that Mitsu seems to normally employ!

That's the first time I hear about the rust. To be honest with crappy paint job does I was expecting that. As far as wing - go get them man, the clear coat pealing is well known around here and dealers know that used shady clear coat, they are supposed to fix it. That should be covered under our 36K/3year warranty

yeah they should cover it if they told you there is a warranty against that. i mean how can they not cover rust??? not like its a mod you did to the car and they are trying to not cover it. good luck.

Dude... these cars are so poorly painted out of the factory that a little rust isn't surprizing. You'll probably $#@! when you see the undercarriage. Or, wait until you pull out one door panels. Get some rust converter or better yet POR-15... coated my whole undercarriage... looks new and protects a long time.

I'm not sure about the rust issue with the warranty, but I recently tried to have mitsu fix my clear coat on my wing and brakes and they told me they would Not fix it under warranty because I am the 2nd owner and they only do it for the first owner, hopefully they don't pull something like that with the rust too. good luck man.
