Honest opinion/experience -- Not defending my mod.... If it sucked I would be slamming it.

First off.... How can removing ANY restriction from the turbo to the throttle body ever be a bad or useless thing? In my 10 years of modding 4g63 motors this has never been the case.

The two pipes aren't even close in size & the FG LICP is shorter with less bends. Matching sizes of LICP & UICP is probably a good idea. I have the BR UICP (short version).

I have the FG LICP (doesn't neck down at turbo and utilizes a reducer coupler). Just installed it last week actually. Been driving my evo with the same exact mods for two and a half years until I added the LICP last week.

Full boost hits sooner & harder than before WITHOUT QUESTION. Throttle response is for sure better. I don't understand why that would be laughable. I would imagine that it could be healthier for the turbo as well as you are opening up a wider path for the air to flow through. I would imagine reducing back pressure....

I did not notice any huge power gains as you will not with such a minor mod. Adding only a LICP without an UICP probably wouldn't produce much of a gain at all. probably comparable to adding a filter.

In my opinion, this is a cheap part and worth it according to the ol butt dyno Anyone who complains about a $150 part for an evo is in for a rude awakening when they realize how expensive it is to maintain an evo.

The stock IC is a restriction as well... that is next to go even if I only see 10-20 to the wheels with my stock turbo/hot side.

I am arguing in favor of the Lower IC pipe. It made me solid power and solid gains on a dyno. I did a before and after as well, results were fealt.

i don't see the point in proving anything to anyone who needs something that can't be interpretted any other way explained to them 5 times.

The lower pipe alone would add some nice WHP. I believe Buschur noticed a 10WHP gain. The Upper pipe is almost not worth doing, 3 or less WHP gained. I do it soley for the T-Bolts and to get rid of the OEM Mesh that expands. You will see almost NO GAIN with a FMIC, upgrade. BUT, your power will be far more consistent and not drop off nearly as fast.

I would question the HP gains of just upgrading the LICP and nothing else. It just seems that it would cause a funnel effect. But hey, I guess it is possible.

HIGH_PSI: I am nowhere close to outgrowing the stock IC, I am fully aware of that. I probably wont' be for quite some time to be honest. I was just pointing out that the stock IC is for sure a restriction and upgrading would not be useless either even though it wouldn't provide much of a gain in power at the present time. To tell you the truth, I can't wait to outgrow both the IC and the turbo and then maybe my evo would pull in a straight line like some of my old DSM's did.

I also disagree that upgrading the IC would not produce any gain. It would probably be small but it surely would produce a gain.

At 600WHP especially on a Buschur Dyno you have a point, I am talking about Evo's reataining the OEM Turbo and pump gas. Some of the fastest stock turbo Evo's run the stock FMIC and the only issue I see with it is heat soak. Many time si have seen Stock Turbo Stock FMIC Evo's make more power and run faster then the larger FMIC unit, because at this level, especially on pump gas, the gain if any is minimal.

At 600WHP you are also running 40+PSI so yeah, I can see a stock FMIC heating up BADLY and having massive pressure loss.

So after sifting through all of this for 20 minutes, I still do not know what to do as far as whether or not to change the LICP.

From what I have read here, half of you say to go with it, and half of you say it is a waste of money. I would like to hear from a wiseman as well as a vendor with before and after dyno sheets.

I too have had two DSMs. Adding a bigger pipe usually does help, but power is not fully realized until all of those restrictions in that system are removed because in a sense, you will still get that bottle-neck effect going on. Is this more or less the deal with this car (evo 8) also?

I highly doubt that there will ever be dyno testing by a manufacturer or retailer. It is a very inexpensive part. If everyone wants to split the cost for a dyno session I will gladly use my car as the tester.

The gains for similar mods between DSM & Evo wouldn't be close. The restrictions are far worse in a DSM than an evo so the DSM would have a larger gain.

I would love for ANYONE to tell me how removing restrictions from this portion of IC pipe could be a bad thing. Aren't most mods a supporting mod for something bigger and better? Even if you do not see immediate big numbers, who's to say that down the road it will not be beneficial? Does an evo with an intake, mbc & a cat back need a Wally 255?... NO but it's not a bad idea!

Its not a restriction. The turbo outlet pipe is the same size as the stock LICP.

The only thing an aftermarket LICP does is get bigger faster.

I'm a prior 2G-b guy myself.... the EVO piping is leaps and bounds better than DSM junk.

The LICP has less bends, it's larger in size & shorter in length. I consider those restrictions. If it was not a restriction then it would be perfectly fine for all of the pipes to be around 1.5" (or exact size of turbo outlet)

The one that I have does not neck down at the turbo outlet. There is a reducer coupler but the reduced portion of the coupler bolts over the outlet as to not restrict. So technically the LICP that I have does not gradually get bigger at all... it just is bigger.

Better Yet, PM David Buschur to ask him how much his pipe makes. He Dyno tests everything. I added a lower AND upper IC pipe and again WHP, spoolup, and throttle responser were gained. This is nothing new
