Getting spoiler replaced
Getting spoiler replaced
So about 3 weeks ago (Mar 16th) I took the car in for service and complained about the clear coat problem on the spoiler, the service manager was really nice and said they will replace it under warranty, I asked if I can still get an Evo VIII spoiler instead of an IX one and he said it's no problem, they'll put one on order and call me as soon as it arrives. I got a call this Wednesday (Apr 4th) and they told me the spoiler is in and painted, I need to make an appointment for them to replace it... I'm a bit skeptical about this, since I've read many threads here about an VIII spoiler being hard to come by and in some cases not available at all, the speed of them getting this done is really amazing (too good to be true?). So my question is are there any ways to tell the difference between the two spoilers visually or any other ways to find out if they really did get the VIII spoiler? I'd like to take their words for it and get rid of that constant "bird crap" looking spot on the spoiler but I also want an exact replacement, any help would be appreciated.
Can someone remind me what is the warranty on the wing? I've got a 2003 VIII with just over 30K miles, and there's an area of clearcoat about the size of a dime beginning to flake off.

Exactly what ^ said. The insides of the side pieces on a VIII are CF, the insides on the IX are painted. I just had mine replaced under warranty as well and was skeptical. I brought up that people were getting IX's spoilers, and he said that was only for part of last year because they ran out of the VIII's but there are plenty now!!!
i went to a local dealer about 2 or so months ago and they took 10 minutes to look at it and decide (black listed dealer-jack walker). he said they would order it and never heard a thing. i happened to stop by today and he has had it for a week but that service manager quit and he didn't have my information. he said they were on back order for a while. i didn't even think to ask if it was an VIII. no i need to call them. i was about ready to have drftking do it for me. i am sure he would do a better job for $100 or whatever he charges but free is good.
Yeah I think it might be a bit late to claim your warranty on the spoiler, mine was an '05 and the warranty on that is 5yr/60k miles. My spoiler had a dime sized "cloudy" spot since day 1 and I wasn't sure if that's how it supposed to be, and over the last 2 years or so it has peeled and is now the diameter of a soda can.
