I 2nd guessed purchasing my Evo once I began having lil' annoying situations like the P0300 code misfires, but overall I love it way too much and still have fun with it. My boy has an 04' STi which is nice (black on gold), and I love his interior, but I'll be keeping my Evo for a long while I believe.

i thought about that but is not only the seats... but they also got blue on the doors, so even if you change the seats you would also have to change the door panels... too much **** for me lol

high rpm shift into 3rd gear-sometimes it seriously WONT go in no matter what. ya know, feels like it would if ur clutch is toasted, but I just replaced it with ACT clutch so I dunno whats goin on.

You changed your clutch at 10k? I ma sure you launched the crap out of it for it to die that fast. What clutch did you go with? What are your mods? Sounds like you have alot of little problems that are easy fixes.

The steering wheel feels harder to turn left, and turns to the right way too easily. And on top of all that, my a/f is way off and my boost gauge is all over the place, basically misfiring like crazy.

Ive invested 7 thousand into it(including paying for labor) and it only has 13k miles so itd be stupid to sell now, but Im definitely getting rid of it next year for an STi or 6 speed 540i.
When the clutch was changed, perhaps the installer put some subpar tranny fluid in there. Switch to some premium stuff and you'll be amazed at the difference in smoothness. As for the springs, I dont see too many Evos riding on Eibachs, switch them out for some Swifts and get the car aligned by a professional. As for the A/F, get your car tuned by a professional, and it should drive better than new. All your symptoms are just describing a car in progress that needs some polishing up. Dont give up so easy. Ive had times when I wasnt terribly happy with my car, but it needed some work. When I finished the particular job up, and pushed that long pedal on the right, all my problems went away. A STI is gonna give you a lot of the same problems, only that it is going to be more expensive to make them go away. As for the 540i, nice car, but once you are used to the AWD traction, RWD is gonna be hell in bad weather. Good luck with whatever route you choose. For me, if I were to get another car, it'd be a new S4 with the V8.

Never taken to any kind of track. if anything i babied the clutch too much(can this kill a clutch?) Although I did do plenty of hard 3rd gear pulls, ive only tried launching it twice and only slightly toasted it once.

Went with ACT clutch and I think streetlite flywheel, maybe prolite...cant remember now.

mods:
boost gauge
fujitsubo exhaust
fujitsubo downpipe
ecutek relfash @ 20psi
bmc air filter
walbro255 fuel pump

Matt
I've been slammed before for saying anything negative about AWD, but it's a double-edged sword. You can have problems at stock power levels let alone the higher power levels. Reliability is very dependent on how the driver launches the car it only takes 1 bad launch to break a TC or diff even at stock power levels. To me that is a sign of fragility reminds me alot of rotaries they need to be tuned perfectly to have any chance at reliability. For every 1 rotary that lives at 400-500whp you will see 10 that blow up. AWD isn't much better in that department IMO. It's a chance you take buying a AWD performance vehicle.

A STI won't be any different their drivetrain is weaker than a EVO drivetrain. If you want a reliable drivetrain that can truly be beefed up you need to play in the domestic field or go with a automatic.

Good luck with your decision.

The Evo IX is just another toy in my garage which also sees vehicles wearing badges like GT3, M, AMG, LS6, and some more exotic cars. I would never keep it forever but wanted to own an Evo as I have always loved them and the IX seemed like a good bet. It is also by far the cheapest car I have owned in well over a decade and I still love it. I can not say the same for the STi and am generally not biased as I generally tend to buy cars based on their performance and balance alone and own everything from American to Japanese. The STi just doesn't have the turn-in or agility of the Evo. When I drive it, it is a fun and solid car but it just doesn't wow me like the Evo. I don't look forward to climbing out of a $100K+ car and into an STi but sure do with the Evo and that says a lot! And don't get the wrong idea, the STi is a great car that I really respect but it offers up a performance envelope that simply isn't enough for me.

However, the bottom line is not what I think or what anyone else on this board thinks. It's about what YOU think and how YOU feel about it. So I would say go and drive it and if it does what you need it to, buy it! You should also look before you leap as the STi is not without problems so if you are not careful, you might wind up exactly where you are now in a matter months.

I can't understand how someone can change their image/feelings about the brand ne car they bought in just a Month. Don't you realize that it takes a few thousand miles for the tranny to properly break-in? And if in the second month you are tired of the car payments, well maybe ytou should have thought about that before you bought the Evo. It's been seen on these forums time and again, a Very Young person goes over their head and buys a car that they can't afford.
I have a 06 MR and I luv it, I broke it in properly, not notcy tranny, no problems at all. I luv it..MAYBE your car is driving like CRAP because you TREAT it like CRAP.
The same thing will ensue if you treat another car the same. I would doubt very seriously if either a Subaru or 350Z will stand up any better under abuse, prob worse.
I suggest you re-think your thoughts about this. You will get slaughtered on a trade-in. I know this from first hand experience.....

never had the privalige of owning any of the cars but in my opinion i love the evo more for the way it makes power at a much more efficient price than the sti and i have been hearing sti guys always complain that when they're making power they seem to always break something and besides the evo looks and sounds better.keep the i'm sure it's the best part of being a member to evolutionm.net

poll, is worthless since you're asking question on this board. Umm have you tried to adjust the clutch ? you go to www.evomoto.com / tech - easy fix. try it.

Parts for an Sti are little bit more expensive. If you hate evo go ahead and buy an STI.

I will try to keep my car as long as I can . If its paid off, thinking to get another car and keep the evo for track days.

If you don' t like the car, sell it.

I traded my STI for an EVO and have never looked back.
A co-worker just dumped his Mazda Speed 3 for a new BMW 335i

If you are going to have a car payment, at least be happy with what you drive.

however, be prepared to bend over and take it like a man... your payments are going to suck.
