ditching the Evo for an STi
The closest thing that I have found to 100% bomb proof is the 996 GT3 but it eats front brakes and tires like wolf so it isn't without problems either.
hmmm a classic case of Evo Vs Sti...............ever watch any of thouse vids of them running on streetfire.net or youtube? almost 99.99% of the time the evo's ****** em up................EVO FTW
I've been slammed before for saying anything negative about AWD, but it's a double-edged sword. You can have problems at stock power levels let alone the higher power levels. Reliability is very dependent on how the driver launches the car it only takes 1 bad launch to break a TC or diff even at stock power levels. To me that is a sign of fragility reminds me alot of rotaries they need to be tuned perfectly to have any chance at reliability. For every 1 rotary that lives at 400-500whp you will see 10 that blow up. AWD isn't much better in that department IMO. It's a chance you take buying a AWD performance vehicle.
A STI won't be any different their drivetrain is weaker than a EVO drivetrain. If you want a reliable drivetrain that can truly be beefed up you need to play in the domestic field or go with a automatic.
Good luck with your decision.

I can't understand how someone can change their image/feelings about the brand ne car they bought in just a Month. Don't you realize that it takes a few thousand miles for the tranny to properly break-in? And if in the second month you are tired of the car payments, well maybe ytou should have thought about that before you bought the Evo. It's been seen on these forums time and again, a Very Young person goes over their head and buys a car that they can't afford.
I have a 06 MR and I luv it, I broke it in properly, not notcy tranny, no problems at all. I luv it..MAYBE your car is driving like CRAP because you TREAT it like CRAP.
The same thing will ensue if you treat another car the same. I would doubt very seriously if either a Subaru or 350Z will stand up any better under abuse, prob worse.
I suggest you re-think your thoughts about this. You will get slaughtered on a trade-in. I know this from first hand experience.....

I've had the car for over a year
I can afford the car
broke it in perfectly
never launch it, only do 3rd+ gear pulls
You guys have to realize that sometimes, a car just isn't what you expected it to be. I honestly didn't expect grinding gears and clutch issues in a car that I never track and never launch. Over and over again I've been battling in my head whether or not to privately sell it or just trade it in. I can afford the payments, but that doesn't mean I really want to anymore. I had the car for 2 years without modding it at all. Once I started modding, I'll admit that I found a new love for her. There is still a part of me that wants to go luxury and get out of the car scene all together. A bimmer or G35 and some nice wheels is all I need. BUT, the evo is still here so obviously there's something that's making me keep it.
And then what? An up pipe, a FMIC, a MBC, seriously you'll be lucky to push another 30whp out of that turbo. The point being keeping pace with an EVO is gonna cost an arm and a leg. EVO owners are over here trying to hit 400whp on the stock turbo and pump gas, if your satisified with numbers hovering around the 300 mark, then by all means get a STI. In my opinion though I don't think your actually ready for a true performance car such as EVO or STI, go back to DSMs or get a Civic or something until you realize that all that performance under $40k sometimes mean you have to sacrifice something.
Evo's are not for everyone. If you don't like the sound of the exhaust always being loud, the Turbo spooling, and over all just the comfortable every day drive
of this car. Then the Evo, or STI is not the car for you. Luxury is nice, but definitely not as exciting and as fast as the Evo can go........ My thought of the day. Huummmmmm.

Your huge list of issues with the Evo is not common. You mention your AFR's being off, but you've got a $600+ tune ... get them to fix it! Your clutch probably needs to be adjusted with the ACT in there. There is no reason that you should have to replace the clutch at 12k unless you slip the crap out of it most of the time. Do you rest your foot on the clutch while driving?
I hate to point fingers, but you might want to consider evaluating the driver before blaming the car. I only have 9k on my IX, but the shifting is super smooth and the clutch is holding strong. I drive much harder than you it seems since I auto-x and have done a few 1/4 mile pulls and launch at 5200 with the stationary limiter. Now, I have tuned it myself and made sure that things like the AFRs are dead on, which you cannot do with the ECUTek tune.
I'm afraid that if you get an STi, you'll have similar problems. Evaluate yourself and see if you can find things about your driving style that might be linked to the problems. Address those issues, then decide if you really want a new car.

Drive both cars at 9/10's and tell me which is the better driver's car. I think the CT9A Evo's, at least in the USDM, are significantly more tossable and tunable than their scoobie counterparts. That being said, the next generation of "Evo vs. STi" wars will be interesting to watch.

i'me thinking of keeping it.. but if I could afford a DD car ile pick either go back to Scion TC, get the new Lancer GTS, or get the car that i always loved "BMW M3 or 330" after the evo.
i love the '05 Subaru STI unlike the new ones the front end is to sharp.

I would like to thank everybody for their input, I appreciate it a lot.
I love the Evo, its a friggin beast with 4 doors and AWD. But I dont have time to be driving 2 hours to the closest mitsu dealership for them to check out my car whenever I have a complaint. Im a good driver, I have my scca liscense and havent even launched the car more than twice! I probably got a fragile Evo from the factory, even though they are notorious for having weak drivetrains anyways. If I do sell it, I wont get the STi. I realized if I move away from the Evo, I want to switch to a luxury car(540i)
