ditching the Evo for an STi
About The Clutch: I just broke in 52k in my evo, and clutch is still holding strong!
STI or EVO: IMO, Evo has nicer seats, costs less to make power, has a more aggressive look, and let me just tell you that it outhandles an STI anyday anytime. StI's are cool, not as cool as the evo. PLUS I see them EVERYWHERE. Evo's are unique, and we have a FMIC sprayer! hahaha. On a serious note tho, Evo 4life.

well we also have a sprayer but not to a fmic! lol. But I will once I get my fmic with my turbo upgrade. hehe. I like both cars, Ideally I would like to own both of them. B/c torque is fun in the STi and on the Evo side the steering response is exhilirating.
So... I mean it's all in how much income you have. If you have unlimited income you can make both of these cars handle better then one another. The key is how much money you got into your pocket.

9 out of 10 STI owners dont know why they are buying the car. i guess the evo to me is something people have to research before they know that it even exists. I always heard about the STI because every time i see a GM dealership, i see a suby dealer nearby, they are like a dime a dozen.
but ( in central NY) i went to 3 dealerships before i found a 4th that actually had 1 evo on the lot back in 2005. it seemed on every suby dealer i went to, they had a few STI's or tried to get you to buy the WRX since they were ....and i quote..."just as fast as STI's".
so needless to say, i find that more evo owners are cool and respect owning the car. not to say there arent douche bags out there that give us a bad name.

The "Ugly" comments always crack me up. ( Frankly I think the Evo looks funky and bad assed) I think the car pisses most people off just as a general rule. When I drive it, people get really aggressive around me (BMW/Porsche soccer moms, business men, etc... ) especially in Red - it's like waving a cape in front of a bull or something. (I know it's the motion, not the color, with the bull)
How anyone could think a pig snout is better looking than a even a VW Beetle boggles the mind.
I'd have a bug eye or turtle WRX for a daily driver any day.
BUT in fairness, if you dress up a black "snouter", they do look good in that color.
I even think the guys that whaah about the stock tail lights on the 03/04's are nuts. True, on a black 03/04, the VII lights are little nicer.
It's all about understanding what the car is about.
The Evo is a drastic statement for most people. I had a neighbor that asked me about mine in a condescending manner a long time ago and I said .... yeah, that mini van your wife makes you drive looks sooooooo much better. You can find people that think any given car looks ugly. I think all Chryslers look horrible .... Mustangs make me yawn as far as looks go, and 350Z's are , well .... they are just trying toooo hard to be cool, all squatty and metropolitan like that - overly gauged and all... cute, but I only like cute in females (and kids, kids are cute :-D )
The Evo is a "real life" slot car - nothin like it for the money in the US - not even the STi - I like them, but the Evo is so much easier to mod.
- Plus you don't have to deal with the FRAGILE Subie block (admitted to by the initiated, but ignored by the average Subie fanboy).
The Evo has a cast iron gut when it comes to knock - NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT TO TAKE FOR GRANTED - SO DON'T MISCONSTRUE THAT STATEMENT TO MEAN YOU CAN IGNORE KNOCK! (Capitalized for emphasis only... not yelling at you :-)
(I had a top Subie tuner in the area look me straight in the eye and admit that)
Also, It's time guys that like these wacked out body kits and think that the "Evo" is ugly, come out of the closet and own up to the fact that Evo looks tame compared to almost every body kit car out there.
Sorry went on a little longer than I intended. I really have reservations about the X based on what I've seen so far - Although the AYC is making me very envious. Maybe I'll give up the modding thing and settle down in a X - I doubt it though - I'm too poor now to start over on a new loan right now.
Enjoy the STi if you get it! (just nature's way of thinning the herd (lol).

One more thought, sorry.
As far as companies go - Subie on the other hand has it ALL OVER Mitsubishi. I was knocked out at the competition parts catalog that I picked up at a Subie Suzuki Dealership while picking up parts for my Suz.
They offer a 3 puck 'competition clutch, and more competition and track upgrades than you can shake a short shifter at! (factory authorized, and I guess warrantied to some extent)
I was insanely jealous of that issue.
You can have Mitsy as a company - I wouldn't even waste my time on another one. (1&2 G's excepted - ok, ... maybe the Galants)
I bought an Evolution, not a Mitsubishi, I'll take it from there.

But you will always hear/see a comment that the STi is a better daily driver. Which I wholeheartedly agree with.
I would like to thank everybody for their input, I appreciate it a lot.
I love the Evo, its a friggin beast with 4 doors and AWD. But I dont have time to be driving 2 hours to the closest mitsu dealership for them to check out my car whenever I have a complaint. Im a good driver, I have my scca liscense and havent even launched the car more than twice! I probably got a fragile Evo from the factory, even though they are notorious for having weak drivetrains anyways. If I do sell it, I wont get the STi. I realized if I move away from the Evo, I want to switch to a luxury car(540i)

instead of a 540i. Then you would get both Luxury and hot sport car.
