Cruise control and a much nicer interior are also a plus, but as already mentioned I perfer evo seats over sti seats.
I agree with this post. I have to admit, the thought of trading in the Evo for an STi has crossed my mind (most likely won't happen) just because of the reasons you posted. While I love the Evo, it just seems as if semi-daily driving an STi would be more convenient according to my wants/needs.

Hmm,

Selling the Evo for the STi will surely yield many of the same headaches. It sounds like you want something completely different.... I would go pick up a used NSX or somethin and have some fun with that

BackcountryGSX,

Selling the Evo to get a STI is going to put you in a similar scenario. When I had my Evo 9 the gears were grinding and I was also feedup. The clutches were also gone very early (11k miles on my Evo 8 MR and 15k miles on my Evo 9).

I know excatly what you are going through, I have been in that same exact situation. Since you mentioned the BMW 540i (6 speed) I would highly sugest you the BMW 335i over the STI and if you really want to forget about grinding, missing gears, clutches etc etc then I would suggest you to adventure to the 335i steptronic.

Anyway, good luck either way but that was my .2c. By the way, remember, when you play you pay, the Evo is a expensive wore on that matter..

Carlos

I went from an '04 Sti to an '06 MR 3 months ago and frankly the MR is hands down a better performance machine but the Sti was a great DD. My MR is great expect for front end vibration and the common brake vibration. My Sti went through 2 sets of rotors in 34k but it was nice that the warranty took care of it. No vibration problems in the Sti, never had to balance wheels and my MR is on it's second set of Yokes and still no joy! I have been going through all posts and it seems I am alone with this problem!

Any/all help is appreciated as I am 2 steps from trading the car in with just 3 months and 3000 miles on the odo...

Dealer tells me to change out to less aggressive tires, there's got to be something more to it. I've owned about 15 new cars in my driving lifetime and that Sti was the only one that did not have front end vibration, go figure. My old Porsche 911 was the same way until recently but cripes it's 29 years old so that doesn't count. Tried to get the wheels balanced on the car but the only shop local say they can't do it because of the awd, etc.

i'm lucky enough to be able to drive an Evo and a STi pretty much on a daily basis, and without thinking too much about it, my initial response is that the STi has alot of things about it that i like, i.e. the seats are softer, and the 6 speed (my evo s a 5) is nice to just drive around town and a little bit better on gas IMO. The throttle response seems to be a little bit better, at least to me. As far as things i really dislike about it is #1, there is no where NEAR as much room in the STi as there is in the Evo. #2, seems to be alot more body roll in the STi than in the Evo (then again my evo is lowered where-as the STi is not), and last but certainly not least, it says STi WAY TO MANY F***IN' TIMES (i think i counted 21 times...WTF?)I HATE THAT LOL. It all comes down to personal preference, but like someone said previously, they are very similar, and if youre not a huge fan of the Evo's, you probably wont be a huge fan of the STi once you get one and drive it on the daily basis. your thoughts on looks alone are not goin g to change the driving experience you have. I love both cars, but for some reason (i really cannot give you a reason) I always find myself getting into the Evo in the morning...thats just me though. Another plus to the STi is the damn sound that motor makes, especially with something like the Tanabe G on it. There are other great cars out there you could look into also if you are wanting toget away from the Evo...

just my 2 cents...good luck to ya either way ya decide

If you mod your evo enough i think you'll like it more. The evo im pretty sure is easier/cheaper to upgrade than the sti. I'm an evo guy and always will be because i've grown up around the 4g63 engine (2 1g's, galant vr4). The looks of a tastefully modded exterior evo kills the sti in looks in my opinion. But i do think the Sti is a great car too all in all. It's only human to want what you dont have, then as soon as you get it you want something else.

I'd like the STI a lot more if the intercooler was front mounted. The forthcoming hatchback STI (concept) looks mean and I'm going to have a decision to make in the next few years, but if I ever went that route an FMIC would be at the top of the list.
