From VIII to IX how loud is MIVEC???
UMM...NO. You are wrong.
VTEC is variable VALVE timing and lift. The reason you hear VTEC on Hondas is because the motor starts running on a more aggressive camshaft lobe.
i-VTEC in the newer hondas have variable CAM timing in conjunction with variable VALVE Timing. MIVEC is only variable CAM timing, and that only on the intake cam.
You will not hear MIVEC "kick in."

MIVEC is DOES NOT have addition cam lobes.
Vtec has two cam profiles on each cam, basically a regular cam and a race cam. When vtec is engaged, the race cam profile takes over.
The "I" in I-vtec is like Mivec, which is just a varible intake cam gear.
Wao a lot of dumb people here. lol
Listen to Anjapower he's got it right. The Evo IX MIVEC is nothing like the FTO GPX 6A12 2.0 V6 Mivec or the Mirage 4G92 1.6L MIVEC. Those were real MIVEC engine with variable lift.
MIVEC use to mean this (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control) now take lift off and that's what you get. A simple variable valve timing like most of the other car makes have (for example similar to my STi AVCS VVT on the intake cam only )
Come on people learn about your cars.

I just picked up a IX 2 weeks ago and I have to ask if you guys noticed a difference in noise level at about 3500 rpm and up?
The change is dramatic I have to say unless there is something wrong with my car.
I quess that is the mivec working but on the other hands it souds like a one big constant knock.
Is that what it sounds like???
Thanks for your help
