Spark plug which n When

How often should spark plugs should be changed? I have about 310whp and drive spirited most of the time.

I have an evo 8 and I wondering what would be the best plugs? what are you guys running with around same power?

Thanks

I'm still learning about the evo but so far what I know the stock plugs are Iridium.

When I change them out, I'll probably get copper plugs with stock heat range. For the coppers, I would change them every 6,000 to 9,000 miles (every 2nd or 3rd oil change). Copper wears out quicker but are a lot cheaper to replace and they are pretty good for Turbo aplications. What ever you do dont get Platinum, something about the material not being able to withstand the heat and pressure from turbo cars.

The answers to these questions are the same as the ones given in all the other threads asking the same questions.

Most BMWs don't run high boost that gets turned up even higher after modding. The stock plugs do not hold up to that abuse, because they are Iridium as opposed to copper.

Not sure why you'd pre-suppose that your BMW knowledge carries over to a 4-cyl 2.0l cast-iron 4G63 running 20+psi.

wow.. .this is a bit surprising to me. My car is stock still and so I thought I could trust the suggested 'severe' maintainence schedule that came with the manual.

You don't have to touch the plugs if you're stock - that's not what we're talking about.

Ok, I have bolt-ons and a flash do I still have to change them every 6K? I take care of my car and do TC, Tranny, Diff at 6K also. this is going to make an even bigger dent in my pocket. And yes I drive it hard! I guess I am asking what do the gurus do?

Why in the world would you change the trans fluids every 6k? No reason to do that unless you track (road race) your car heavily. No one is supposed to just randomly change their spark plugs - you change them when they foul out, and that is only going to happen with copper plugs. You should still be using the stock plugs for as long as possible until they no longer work properly. After that, consider getting copper replacements and changing them as needed.

I don't think $8 is much of a dent in your pocket, though. That's all a set of copper plugs costs...
