Angry $250 for plastic light cover!!

OK....so I at the parking lot where I work and my colleague points out that I have crack on my back, right light covers (the clear plastic cover). To my surprise, it appears that someone or something must have hit it leaving a crack about 2 inches. So I bring it in to and see if "maybe" they might cover it. But as expected, they won't because it appears to be damaged and not defective. So ok, I asked how much for a replacement. To my surprise, they want $250 for the stupid plastic cover. That is ridiculous!!!! I said hell no I won't pay for it. So now, I have car with cracked light covers!!! That sucks!

Hi,

Do you have comprehensive insurance? That is what it is for unless your deductable is $250 or above.

Get the Evo 7 Tail light and dump those crack ones. I think Evo 7 Tail light looks better and cheaper.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. But this is a good excuse to get the Evo 7 tail lights. I'm not sure if they are cheaper, but IMO they do look better.

I just picked up a set from this guy.. should arrive later this week. most of his auctions go for $255-300 plus shipping. I can't wait to beat the altezzas with a baseball bat.

The problem is that it's not just the clear plastic outer shell that has to be replaced. The entire housing is fused together, so you're paying for the entire light (believe me, I tried to see if the housing would come paprt so I could paint the inside...). But I agree that $250 is pretty steep. You're definately better off finding a set on eBay or buying a set of Ver. VII's.

My 18yo brother chased my 5yo brother headfirst into my taillight. He was fine, but left a 6 inch crack in the lamp. 150 for the lens, 160 for the whole housing... I too drive with a cracked light.

So if they appear to be 2 piece, should be easy to smoke the glass on the inside right? A smoked Evo 8 tail would look better than a regular 7 IMO. Aren't there people that haven't shot their tails yet? Hang on to them. You should be able to sell them easily. Right now there are two in need.

Smoked tails look real mustang. Probably because I live in the rural south.

I had to replace the entire housing on one of my past cars because the cover fell off somehow. I just picked a housing up at a junk yard for 20 bucks. With the Evo being new and relatively rare unforunately you have to pay a premium until one shows up at a local junk yard... Maybe one of the guys who totalled theirs can put you in contact with the junk yard that now has theirs?

I think the E7 tail light if you can find them is the best way to go myself.

When I looked at the tails, the clear outside looked to be fused (as in melted) to the body of the light. If anyone can tell me how to get them apart, I'm all ears. I don't think this is something that can be done with a hair dryer or a low temp oven. Anyone have any input?
