Daily Driver - EVO9 or 01 S4?
Agreed, but I would mark up both of your number figures. Yes, the quality of the interior leaves something to be desired, but that is not the reason to purchase this car. Also, this car performs as well on a road course as 6-figure vehicles. If you find a potential client making light of the Evo you are driving them in, just have some fun with it--it very well may help you out in the long run. Good luck with your decision.
i drove an 01 s4 today. felt like the evo under 3k rpms. it had like 70,000 miles and has had nothing but problems since the person i know bought it. definately a good car but with that much milage its just a matter of time before something goes wrong.
Go for the 335i and forget both cars
Why pay $20k+ for someone elses junk (used car)? Unless thats what you can afford, but it sounds like you could bump up to an EVO and a 335i is only, what, $15k more?

I haven't read all the posts, but anybody tell this dude to take a 01 S4 over a EVO has never owned an Audi. My Audi experience was horrible to say the least and I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever buy an Audi again.

Flip a coin. If it lands on its side get a GALLARDO.
i say for a DD go S4..if your coming from a M3 then stay in that category car..evo 9 will only cause you to get revved at and stereotyped...S4s are very nice cars..couple friends have them and are very fast yet luxury at the same time..
S4 for DD
S4 for DD
I drive a IX MR. My brother drove a 2000 S4 with chip, catback, and suspension work for at least 2 years. As has been said plenty of times already, the Audi just can't touch our cars in terms of bang for buck. However, the S4's interior is in another league, its exterior is undoubtedly classier and yet still quite attractive/aggressive with the right parts, and it sounds absolutely fantastic. Few cars in the price range can tough a VAG V6 in terms of sound, IMO, and the two turbos only help that. Make no mistake about it, they're also quite fast. Stock B5 S4s make 250 bhp and 258 lb-ft at the crank. A $600 chip bumps that to 310 bhp and, this is not a type-o, 380 lb-ft on pump gas. They're absolute torque monsters. Guys have put down 500 awhp on K04/K16 hybrid turbos (half OEM B5 RS4 turbo + half OEM Porsche 996 Turbo turbo), which are still small enough when matched with the 2.7 V6 to spool very low in the rev range (compared to our cars, anyway).
But unfortunately, that's only half the story. My brother now drives an LS1 GTO though he loved the S4 to death. Why? Because its turbos went at 30k miles or so and Audi charges something ridiculous like $6,000 to repair that (an APR Stage III kit with OEM RS4 K04 turbos runs around the same price--go figure). Granted, we had bought the car salvaged and repaired it, but at the same time a friend of my brother's with a 2001 S4 had his turbos go at around 50k miles, though he was lucky enough to get it covered under warranty. So basically, the moral of the story is that, while pretty reliable overall (my brother had no other issues whatsoever in 2-3 years of ownership), B5 S4s are prone to having their stock turbos go, which you should definitely take into consideration. I've heard replacing them with K04s takes care of the issue, but I'm not totally sure.
I love my Evo to death, make no mistake about it. I will admit, however, that the S4 is a better overall package IF you have the cash to keep it running. Faster? Of course not. Few cars anywhere near the price range have the honor of matching the Evo in that regard. But that isn't the entire story, especially if one of your requirements in a car is looking classy for business meetings. I'm a college kid, though, so I couldn't be any happier with the rude-boy image of my Evo

I am coming from an 04 M3. My lease is up on Saturday and I don't know what to get yet. I want something with lower payments.
I am trying to figure out which would be a better, more reliable, daily driver. I have a line on a 2001.5 negaro Blue/alcantara S4 with 61,300 miles. Price is like 20k. The other option is a new EVO9.
My only requirement is that the car is fun and quick, and that I won't look funny going to business meetings in a suit and looking like I'm getting out of a "kids" car. I know that sounds dumb, but it is important.
Any pros and cons?
THANKS!
