Great point and not to be taken too lightly... The Evo has awesome rear leg room and handles 4 people comfortably.

As for generation 03+ S4s, is there any way to make one fast? I agree it's the best looking A4 style.

I had a 2000 S4 about 2 years ago with it's fair share of mods. It was a great, comfortable car. It was a blast to drive (i had the X chip and full exhaust).....until i blew the turbo's out of it at about 70K miles. I promptly decided to spend the money for K04's which it seems most people have no problems with.

After install the car ran awesome and pulled really hard. But that was short lived as i had enough other problems (heated seats problems, the display inbetween the speedo and RPM started going out, the car almost always had a check engine light on for one thing or another.

I've now recently purchased a 06 evo ix and put about 10K miles on in the past 3-4 months. I have basic upgrades,(TBE, tune, MBC) Through the first few gears it pulls just as hard as the S4 did with the K04's. And the cars been very reliable. Granted it's not as comfortable, but i don't miss the S4 one bit!

In this case, I'm going to recommend the S4. The Evo is a wonderful car but you would look absolutely ridiculous going to meetings and taking professional coworkers around in one, wing or not. As a DD, the S4 is a much better choice for your average person. The Evo isn't for everyone - like I said in the other thread, it's a car with the quality of a $12,000 econobox with no suspension but the performance of a $50,000 sports car. It's an awesome driving experience and I find it perfectly comfortable for DDing (except for all those damn rattles!) but it definitely has its niche market.

Do you absolutely need the AWD? An M3 would be a great compromise. Pretty fast, handles and brakes very well, and much more comfortable/higher quality than the Evo. If the AWD is essential, you might also check out a Volvo S60R. Plenty of power and good handling but very inexpensive.

evo, s4 is just gonna break and its too much. I'd rather spend 3k on a t case for a 35k car, then spend 3k for a tranny on a 14k car

The early v8 S4's had a lot of problems with people popping the motors. Not just spun bearings, either--we're talking rod-through-the-block type problems.

FWIW I work with a lot of audi guys and I shut them up regularly when they are in my Evo. Conversations about their cars often end or start with, 'my car handles amazing with these $3000 coil overs! Oh, no, not like your evo scheides, but still amazing!' (and my car is on stock suspension still!) Evo is the better choice here IMHO. If for nothing else, then for reliability.

I used to own 01 S4 - with couple mods like suspension/apr catback and small goodies! all I can tell you? Really nice to drive, interior is solid - When you getting the used one with 60k+ on it make sure you check some history on it, make sure everything works i.e. sunroof, hid's , and everything on dash board since -dash board (lights) are weak on these cars(00,01) some of them have turbo issues, electrical problems... but i love the interior/exterior -when slammed.

I sold it because i had some issues with it, and it was too luxury for me, i felt like an old guy driving it, but i still miss it from time to time as far comfort. The car feels heavy tho.

If you want luxury, go with an S4, if you want to go fast and dont mind the wing or what people think - go with an evo. +1

Thing is Evo is not a kID's car if you think that way - People in U.S do not even have a clue, how cool is to drive an evo and hug some corners, in europe people look at your differently because it cost more and its harder to afford one, oh well.

GL with your purchase.!

Remove the rear wing if it bothers you... many people do. There are plenty of small carbon fiber ones available to put in its place if you want... After owning 4 Audi Quattros and the horrible reliability and electrical problems with each and every one I have to to say:
Audi
EVO

I was looking for a nice small wing but haven't found one yet. Dare to share the links to the ones you're reffering to? There was only one CF that I saw and I didn't like it.
Thx

Here's one in CF. I have one from them that is painted FRP (same exact style as the CF below), but it doesn't seem to be up on their site right now. It's just right for the car IMO.

Yeah, that's the one I don't like. I want it to be one chunk so just the back piece and not with the spear-sizes sides like this one (they probably made them to fill all stock holes).

I feel like I'm on Audiworld with so many ex-S4 owners here (except for their dinosaur forum layout).

To the OP; I've mentioned it on another Evo/S4 thread but what about the Subaru Legacy GT?

Awesome car and quite the bargain.

the 01 s4 is very leak prone, abt makes a hard pipe kit to replace the parts, but the main is a pain in the but. both cars are fast and fun to mod, the evo will kill it on the track, but the S4 gets more chixxxx. if you go S4 go 03 if you can
