Daily Driver - EVO9 or 01 S4?
Daily Driver - EVO9 or 01 S4?
I am coming from an 04 M3. My lease is up on Saturday and I don't know what to get yet. I want something with lower payments.
I am trying to figure out which would be a better, more reliable, daily driver. I have a line on a 2001.5 negaro Blue/alcantara S4 with 61,300 miles. Price is like 20k. The other option is a new EVO9.
My only requirement is that the car is fun and quick, and that I won't look funny going to business meetings in a suit and looking like I'm getting out of a "kids" car. I know that sounds dumb, but it is important.
Any pros and cons?
THANKS!

Get s4. As a DD it's more comfortable, as far as your meeting go, audi is more business type ( I wouldn't it call it that, but def. closer than Evo)
Good luck with your business meetings
Good luck with your business meetings
if status symbol and image are important the s4 is the proper choice. However, I believe s4 turbos get replaced under 100k miles so it could need an expensive overhaul soon after you take the ownership. You're gonna have a lot less problems with a new evo compared to a 61k mile audi, which will cost a grip to repair.
Go with the EVO, and take the wing off. You won't get any wierd looks getting out of a wingless EVO. Unless of course it has a loud exhaust, or its full of carbon fiber or something.
I don't care- I rock a suit everyday to a government office and I ride in the evo- It's also quite amusing when co-workers want to go out to lunch or we have to do something off the premises- I always drive and scare the crap out of the 50+ year olds that I work with. I love it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

good luck getting to the meetings with the s4.....
nothing like a good old fashioned german electrical nightmare
on a side note. i love those old s4s, there are some good well priced tricks you can do to get alot of power out of them. and its comfortable and not loud.
the type of business you are in might restrict which car you would purchase.

my car actually becomes a conversation piece.

I have both.
First of all, the S4 is hands down the better DD. If you want to go fast in any way, shape of form (street, 1/4, or road race) get the Evo.
At 60k on the S4, your going to need the timing belt done, the turbo's (if the car is stock) will be ok as long as you don't mod it, there will be numerous other issues which may pop up but honestly I didn't see any problems until I began modding. There is a ton of info I can give you, PM or email me if you have any questions.
Maintenance will be more expensive than the Evo, however the initial investment and insurance will be cheaper. If your trying to make an impression on anyone who doesn't care about going ***** out fast, they will be more impressed with the S4. People ask me all the time why I bought the Evo to replace the S4, but everytime I put my foot down in the Evo I have my answer.
Also, the S4 is a torque monster. 258 lbs @ 1800 rpm, and with a chip and exhaust I was seeing about 420 at the same RPM. The Evo feels flat out dead at low RPM's around town.

my friend have a 06 s4 . it is slower then evo and always something doesn't work.
that is i know about s4.
and for a look . If you want to be unique, than the Evo hands down.
most people can't make a difference between S4 or A4.

Great points guys. I am in the automotive industry...just the "high-end" side of it. My clients would expect to see a Mercedes or BMW, but all in all, I want a fun and fast daily. However, I do have to take into consideration what others will stamp on me and my company when they see the car.
The S4 is slightly modded, but it has stock turbos. I like the idea of a warrenty as well with the Evo, as well as having a new car that I know everything that it has been through.
