NewMods and Tune gets me a 12.5 @ track

I did my personal best last night in my 06MR and turned a 12.5. I did a 1.74 - 60 ft and trapped 111.49. I backed it up with a 12.60 the next pass. The whole night I was trapping in the 111's.
The installs were ....above all things a K&N Typhoon intake and a Greddy profec B spec II EBC, and my friend Tuned the ECU for me. I was running super rich and my bumper was black before, but now just a tad bit of unburnt fuel makes it's way on the rear bumper. The MR sounds awesome now with the Greddy Ti paired with the ultimate test pipe and a Helix DP along with the K&N intake the sounds are crazy. Everyone luvs the sound of my car. The track sucked big time lots of sliding and barley traction in first and second gears. I was spinning lots when launching. The crowds were huge and the night was long but we all had a blast.

Now I'm thinking of what is gonna get me into the 11's.........???

People complain constantly about the K&N Intake being a piece of crap but the thing is awesome, it ran perfectly even before my tune. No stalling, no sputtering. nothing. It sounds loud lots of noises which I'll have to get used to. You hear the intake tract noise and the DV releasing the unused boost back into the intake tract. Sounds like a VTA which is ok. But People need to not trash this intake, to me it is great. I think the ones that had problems with it already had issues with their car and the K&N just brought out those already underlying issues. Use this intake like I did and turn a 12.5 and look for me into the 11's soon....
My Friend MATT tuned and flashed my ECU. He did a great job I was running super rich before his tune. We did 8 4th gear pulls and the last pull no knock was present, and the curve was very linear. We might fiddle with a MIVEC map he has but I was very pleased and impressed that along with the EBC and intake and MAtt's tune I was able to shave off 9/10's off my time. That's allot if only all of us could see that kind of improvement at every install.

what's it gonna take to get me into the 11's ?

You just don't understand how the car would run better WITHOUT that intake. Just because you don't notice the symptoms, it doesn't mean it's running "awesome." For the money spent, you're way off from where you should be still. You're also nowhere near 11s. Half a second is huge in drag racing, especially at this level. You can start by learning to drive it better, then you can get rid of the Typhoon pipe (keep the cone filter), add some cams/o2/licp, and then get it custom tuned for race gas. 11s waiting to happen...

Yes; I'm not the best driver and the track was utterly the slickest I've ever seen it. On my last run, I was all over the place and let off and gave up, we all went home after that. I spun thru 2nd gear on every run I made, so I know I can better my times and traps.

Im happy with my tune and my times..this is real world action not behind some computer desk / chair action.....so if I trap 111 then what estimate of a 1/4 would you say? Remember I'm a terrible driver and the track was awful. Maybe next weekend, but again I took off 9/10 of a second with my tune....that doesnt happen everyday.....My Tooner did a Road Runner tune on me not a Wiley Cayote moment....oh watch out for that .....keyboard...opps...

What are you referring to with the computer desk/chair action?

The tune did not take .9s off your time. It gave a little power, and you drove the car better.

I ran a 12.26@110.0 with my WT stg1 on my VIII with a mail-in flash. You hit 111.5, so you do the math...

hey bro, here are some suggestions based on our experience:
1. Get the car on a dyno and see your HP and AFR...

2. Remove the Typhoon and put back the stock airbox (we get better luck with the Blitz induction cover than the typhoon)... this is based on 3 cars that have come in to the shop with the Typhoon... all three cars made more power w/o the Typhoon. You'll see the power gain once the typhoon is removed.

3. use better gas (100 octane or higher)

4. 1.6 60' time with good launch

5. approximately 350whp/350tqe on a loaded dyno.

6. tire pressure to about 22psi on the tracks

7. do not rev 4th gear out to 7500 rpm, shift into 5th at around 7000rmp and cross the line in 5th.

8. Good driving and good shifting and a little weight reduction on the car.

if you do a search on Mynes, you'll see that we have a couple of 9 MR's in the high 11's.

mike
