Prevent Wheel Hop?
What can be done to a evo to help with the very bad thing called wheel hop. I killed my TC about 3 weeks ago because of it. Really aggressive launch and some wheel hop then bye bye. I know that with FWD and RWD cars you can change your motor mounts and put traction bars in. I was just wondering if there is anything that can help prevent it with a AWD car.

Well im launching at 6K, Ive never had a problem with wheel hop on the street NEVER. Its just when i go to the track. I drive around the waterbox stage put it on the 2-step and give her a little slip and bam wheel hop. I think that our track just might suck or hell i just might suck. I was pulling 1.7 in when i lived in Cali, when i moved out here though, first time at this track i launch and get wheel hop, then again i try a different style and still get wheel hop.So i slipped a little more and that just ended up roasting the clutch. This was on a 20G, TBE, intake, hard pipe, O2, 25psi, Race gas, Aggressive tune, 35psi at all four corners. Thanks for the link Talon ill check it out.

Where were you racing? Was it up at Bandimere? If so, I also get a little wheel hop there all the time due to how sticky it is, but that's also with my tires down around 22-24psi. I can't imagine getting wheel hop with 35psi. With all that power and 35psi, I'd roast all 4 through 1st.

This is Grand Junction at the strip here. I forgot the name damn. I was the first AWD on the track and i already had the death wine in my TC, so i had the tires aired up to 35 because i wanted to spin. I didnt want to break on the line. I was one out of 3 AWD that took it that night Me first then my buddy with a WRX and then a DSM and a old school impreza. They must have preped it pretty good. Its all good im just going to send it off to shep and get a stage three now.

Yea thats what i was thinking. The thing is that the track sucks so bad here. You roll backwards in both lanes, so i think thats were the wheel hop was coming from i tryed the ebrake thing but i just couldnt get the hang of that. Pulled a 2.1 short time because i slipped the HELL out of the clutch. Im kinda looking forward to getting a stg 3 TC. I get rid of the death wine is what im really going to love.

To prevent wheel hop on my EVO 8, I installed Buschur front and rear motor mounts; and upgraded the rear trailing arm bushings, rear differential carrier bushings, and rear mustache bar bushings to the Energy Suspension polyurethane units. Make sure you get the black bushings, dont get the red one.
