boost leak?
boost leak?
ok so i broke in my clutch and i turned up my boost to about 21 psi....
well when i get on it
the car hits 15 psi, kinda stays there for a sec, then it will take right off. the whole time it sounds like a big air leak when its over 15psi and it doesnt really feel like its going to fast...
im thinking maybe one of my lines going to the mbc have a leak, because it sounds like its comming from that area( air box, left side of car...) maybe i put a hole in it by accident when installing the clutch?
anyone ever experience this or have any ideas?
thanks

yea i have come to the conclusion theres definately a leak...
i drove my car tonight to figure out a little better what the problem might be and as soon as i hit 15psi, its just a loud air noise and the boost gradually drops

well tonight i went back and made sure everything i took off during the clutch install was tightend down....and it was
so i went out and drove my car a little bit to explore the problem some more....
if i get on it in 2nd gear it does the noise and my boost drops.once it starts doing the problem, it keeps doing it in every gear....also i notice my rpms increase, but my speed really doesnt go anywhere. is this just because lack of boost? or is it clutch related?
but if i go from a 3rd gear pull, i get full boost(23psi) and it holds it fine from 3rd on up.....its like once the problem starts, it keeps doing it, but if it doesnt do it, it runs normal....
im completely stumped on this one, and since it holds boost in a higher gear...im worried its not just a boost leak, and could be a clutch issue? just because i seen my rpms increase with no speed increase.... the clutch is brand new, has a little over 400 miles on it

the snorkel is the plastic inlet that is connected to the intake box that holds the filter. it directs cool air directly to your intake (pictured above circled in blue). youll see in the pic that the snorkel is held down by two plastic screws (circled in red). if these two screws are not there when you hit around 6000 rpm the snorkel will actually suck up against the hood youll hear a loud wistle/boost leak sound and your boost will drop.
not sure if this is your problem but doesnt hurt to look

Boost leak test is the only way to tell.
If you had the transmission out, and the acd moved to the side, there is a good chance you could of broke off one of the plastic hose connectors on the Vacuum Regulator.
Its connected to a brass colored mount on the bottom back side where the acd/tcase hook together (that area)
That one cracked on me, it would hold to 15psi on the boost leak test.
Fuel Injector seals (lower) held until 19psi
