Motor mounts?
Motor mounts?
Im considering the AMS urethane motor and trans mounts for the IX. I hear its better to keep stock ones because of the teeth rattling that ensues after your change stock soft mounts for harder ones. Any truth to that claim or ftw and go for urethane mounts? I would assume that motor travel will be less with urethane ones as opposed to stocks, but is it worth giving up a bit more comfortable ride?
I'm not sure of the structure of your stock mounts, I can only assume they are better than mine were on my RA, but no matter what your entire car will feel better with hard mounts. you think it scoots now wait until the engine doesn't have to reposition itself every time you punch it
The chief reason I went with a solid mount (Buschur front motor mount) was to tighten up the shifting. It shifts very, very nice now that the motor mount is in (engine doesn't lunge as much from letting off the gas & engaging clutch). Yeah, you get a bit more vibration that is noticeable through the steering wheel, but it's not annoying. After a couple of weeks of driving you won't even notice it anymore.
Another thing you might consider (if you're worried about vibration) is to go with a solid front mount and/or one of those shock-type engine stabilizers that mounts on top of the engine by the strut tower. I tried to find a link for you, but I can't remember where I saw it around here...

I have all three AMS mounts and have no complaints of vibration and I ran the powerflex front mount before with no complaints. I have a powerflex pre-pressed pending sale here locally, but if you are interested PM me.
I have powerflex they are rated at 80 durometer. the vibration you get front the front motor mount is minimal. I even upgrade my tranny mount and my cam gear side motor mount, and the vibration was actually less than it was before with the front motor mount. I highly recommend powerflex. this is a must upgrade on any evo.
I use Buschur front/rear and AMS sides. You wouldn't even know I had engine mounts in the car with just the front and sides installed. The rear mount is the one that transmits the most noise and vibration.
unfortunatly not, and its more of a purple color to me. its not a big deal when you only install the front lower mount (cant see it). wish they would offer more colors for those wanting to be stealth or trying to match other parts in their engine bay.
I had a Buschur front motor mount that I used for about 2 days, then I replaced it with a new stock one. The vibrations just wasn't something that I wanted to deal with for a daily driver.
People will say it is not that bad, and I am sure for most it isn't, but for me I have a 2.3 stroker with a balance shaft eliminator kit. I think with that combination, it makes for a little more excessive then just the norm.
