Whoever says crankwalk is non existant in evos does not know what they are talking about. I have seen three cases in tampa area alone. And there are not that many evos in tampa. And they dont have enough miles on them to really tell yet.

Contrary to what most people wish to believe mitsubishi did not solve the 7 bolt crankwalk issue. The simple fact is the 7 bolt crank is not nitrided and as a result the surface is very soft. The crank spins bearings very easy as a result. And the thrust surface can wear quickly as well.

There will be less cases of crankwalk in evos because most are treating them right and using mobil 1 oil. 2g cars never had that luxury. Most are using oil from walmart.

Interested in the crankwalk issue. How many miles are on the car / what mods / clutch?

I'd sell the Skyline and go invest the money. Then you don't have 2 work at Wal-Mart when you are 80! -like most of the people on the Evo forum will be -

I know someone who may be interested in your skyline, hes got a 2.3 stroker, drives it very minimally, and keeps it garaged always.

I've hit the road in two Skyline's in the past year, one was sporting 70 Trim Turbo, the other was sporting a set of 16G Turbos.
Both cars were just SICK FAST!!! But, if I had to drive one everyday to work, I would be broke because both SkyLine owners told me the Skyline is a Money Pit on wheels.
I am Super Happy with my Evo IX
So, I would say go back to Evo.

These are the pics so far. The metal piece in my hand is what was left of 1 of the thrust bearings. Crank shifted towards transmission.

Well that sucks.

IMO I wouldn't mind a Skyline for a bit, but after awhile, a RARE car can be and is a real PITA. Plus, as you can see, it's a known and sought after car, that alone brings a LOT of unwanted attention.
One of the reasons I got rid of my Eclipse GSX, (Not to anyway compare it to a Skyline mind you). I had it all show and go. Won lots of show events, 450+WHP and looked good. Made me nervous as all hell leaving it anywhere and waiting to see if I was still going to have a car when I got out of the movies or done shopping someplace.

I now drive a nice subtle silver Evo VIII. Looks great and stands out enough, without screaming COME TAKE ME!!!! Still has a warrenty, parts are east to get, can make it a monster when I decide to, and it's highly useable for a DD.

There are alot of parts that are not interchangeable since the RB series motor was never offered here.
Not exactly. I owned an r33, and all the basic maintenance stuff is available. Lots of parts transfer over form other nissans like the plugs, filters, etc. The starter was the only thing I had troubles with, but I just had it rebuilt.

I do not think selling an R32 to get an Evo 9 would be a bad idea. Unless you put a lot of money into a GTR, the evo will be on par performance wise, plus it is much newer and a little easier to deal with day to day. If the crank did walk, its a fluke.
