Rumor: Warranty is honored early in the month

According to a friend of mine, he told me that the warranty is honored on most Evos (even with some mods) during the early part of the month at certain dealerships because they have a certain amount each month to spend on warranty work... Has anyone else heard of this rumor? My transfercase is going and I wonder what they would say to a 497whp evo... I figure it does not hurt to try... =)

Wait, you drove your car?
VOID@!#@#

Actually, I worked at a ford dealership alot, and the mechanic section would do most of it's warranty work before the 20th of the month. Bodyshop did it whenever it could.

I the place that I bought my Evo said that the warranty isn't voided with light mods like coilovers, intake system or an exhaust.

haha, my engine is no where near stock but my tcase is starting to whine. I might take my car in and try to get the transfercase replaced on the 1st or 2nd day of the month... it does not hurt to try, lol.

Also, just to confirm... If i am driving my car and i put it into 1st gear at about 10mph (with the clutch pushed in, so it is not connected to the engine) i get a very high pitched whine. Is this the gear box and normal or the transfercase? I get it both while in gear and especially out of gear but still with the shifter in first.

Transmission, its your blocking rings trying to catch up with the gear. Try to wait till your almost stopped to put it in gear.

If the stick's in "First" then you're in gear. You just have the clutch in.

And yes, in first and second gear, transmission noise (whine) is normal as they are triple-synchro'd gears.

As far as a dealer having a "warranty budget" I'v been a tech at a Mitsu/VW dealer, and have never heard of this. I can't speak for all Mistu dealers, but I wouldn't think that Mitsu would have some of their dealerships do one thing, and the others do something else. I dunno though.

btw, I wouldnt recommend trying to put it in 1st while doing anything above 2 or 3 miles an hour. Your syncros have to speed up the input shaft alot when you are at 10 mile an hour using 1st gears syncros, and that means premature wear on them.

Don't do it on the first or second, do it on the 5th or 8th, because the first/second they are usually still wrapping things up.

I had the same reaction too when the CFO at the Mitsu dealer said it. But he said it was OK and consider it as light mods.

Hey all,

Okay thank you for the tips... I will keep that in mind. I never normally put the car into first gear (clutch pressed in obviously) until i am going very slow (a few mph), if not completely stopped. And i figure that I might as well try to get the warranty since I will not be using them for much else, lol
