Lightest battery to start the Evo

Well we all know there are tons of mini battery kits out on the market.
Most of them use the 11lb Braille battery and have been shown to work great and start the car just fine.

This thread is for people looking for an even lighter battery. I'm not talking about kits or mounting solutions or anything like that. I just simply want a discussion of what is the absolute lightest battery that can be used on the EVO without the need to be constantly plugged into a battery tender.

I have found this 3lb batter that has some good reviews and has been somewhat proven to start small 4 cylinder engines, only problem is it is crazy expensive. Does anyone know of a lighter or cheaper battery?

you just need to make sure your maintaining close cold cranking amps or the battery will be junk after a few starts.

go with the Braille. 8lbs difference and lesser abilities isn't worth the price to me.

There are a couple lightweight options from Deka and Hawker has several too. I have used brailles over the past few years in race and street cars and if you go with the 11.5 pounder or smaller, you have to drive your car almost everyday or it WILL lose its charge. I had to jump my race car every single time I started it for months and months. A trickle charger close by will help if you keep the car parked for an extended period of time.

And just an FYI on cold cranking amps and being able to turn your engine over, the rule is you need 1 CCA for every 1 cube of displacement assuming you dont have some super high compression monster.

I have not found that to be true with my lightweight battery. I can go about a week in super cold weather and still start the car no problem.

I will check out those other companies, thanks for the names.

Any one else know of a super light weight battery that is not crazy $$$

I know that the Dexa ETX-14 is the generic version of the Braille Mini-battery that most of you rock... just no fancy marketing, and is available online for $60. But there was also someone on here running the ETX-12 which was a few lbs lighter; not sure of he's jumping it every day to go to work though...

I think 10 lbs will make a difference. Please post if you know of a lighter and cheaper battery. I don't want to debate the difference of 10 lbs
