I know for sure I have launched my evo terribly wrong when I first got it at 22k miles, and a good 6-7 times. my stock clutch is still good, with no slipping now, and my t-case barely barely whines. my transmission goes into EVERY gear just fine, but I do change my t-case and transmission oils every 7-10k miles usually closer to 7k. It all depends on how you take care of your drivetrain, and if you take it to the track alot just rebuild them. if you take any car and take it to the track a lot, they will break also, its not just the evo. I also believe on well maintenance for longer drivetrain life.

The stock T-case should hold around 400 whp... That's what i've been told at least. And your trans, with the 5 speed, is strong as S#^t... I change my fluids every 10k miles (trans, t-case, and diff) and my oil every 3k... Its a bit pricey but that LSD fluid is like 6 quarts for 100... so it lasts. Tranny fluid, i run redline, is like 30-40 per change, same with oil.

Maybe people are scared to launch cuz they like to just side step it, lol!!! Its all good and fun but horrible on the drive-line. Practice makes perfect though, so keep your foot steady at the point right before it grabs, then pull your leg away as fast as your can and get ready for second!!!

It's not a steller deal, but the trade in amount seems close. I was getting 19-21k for my 05' and said screw it and kept it. Cobras are starting to hold their value a little now.

Good luck!!

Sell your evo asap! Maybe the new owner of your evo will understand and appreciate this car's heritage more than yourself.

I just don't understand why people buy evo's to drag race with.

I agree with you 100%
&0% of Evo owners don't appreciate this car

So I got my car a few days ago back from Devo Tuning. Adam rebuilt my tranny. Now its smooth as butter. I have no intentions of selling it anymore. I'm just not going to bang my gears in anymore. If it doesn't go into gear don't force it, plain and simple.

I know for a fact now if I sell it I would be very regretful. I shouldn't blame the car for the problems. I was racing it every other day recently before the tranny went out. Now I'm so ****in cautious of shifting. I get nervous shifting into 5th gear on the highway because it use to grind all the time.

Plus the 4th gear is a Evo VIII gear now. I was at 120-121 mph in 4th gear and It still had some gear left.

P.S. I got a steal of a price for the VIII gearing.

Devo Tuning FTW

First of all Evo's are known to have grinding issue's.

With any car that you race with you will have problems.

My question for you is. Can you afford to beat on your car and repair it on things that get broken or worn out?

P.S. Evo IX's are known to have 5th gear grinding issues even with only 1K miles.

Evos are known for haveing bad trannys and clutchs. Trannys cost around 1,000 to have rebuilt. But i still love my VIII and won't get ride of it. Before this i had a cobra. U made a good choice beemerfreak. And look at the cobra forums i know i use to be one of those guys we all wanted to get the evos. Almost every guy that has a cobra loves the evo and has a lot of respect for are cars. Most of them would switch but just can't afford it and the ones of us that did love it. Cobras are great cars too but the evo is hands down the winner in my book

I think too many people only look in a striaght line...i mean take your blinders off and put our car on a track, which is what they were ment for against super cars and see what they run. AWD was designed for as much traction as posible...once your going in a straight line you dont need AWD....look at some of the time attack evo's and see what they run....

My 03' didn't have any tranny issues with almost 60K on it before I sold it. My 06' had a 5th gear grind, but that was me trying to shift it too fast into 5th which is not made to go into fast.

EVO trannies are fine. Its the people driving them, that abuse them, and just can't drive to save thier life. The clutches are fine as well. It all goes back to who is driving the car and how they are treating the car.

Many of the EVO's around here are still on the stock clutches with 60K or more miles on them making good power with bolt ons. If you plan on launching the car invest in a aftermarket clutch. If your gonna drive it and mod it, the stock clutch will be just fine and hold power if its not abused.

I hammer my evo on the streets and on the highway, and the tranny is fine...no issues.
