Rust around rotors
Rust around rotors
Im trying to take off my rotors for the first time in my cars life to switch them to slotted and dimpled that i bought, but the hub has so much rust, the rust is sticking to the rotor and i cant seem to take it out, even hammering it. what should i do? wd40 that hoe?
which rotors. your to vague. fronts hammer off, rear ones back off the ebrake and use to bolts that fit the holes on the rotor and turn them in.. the rotor will come off..
you now have enough info to search and learn the rest...

can someone explain that rear one again??
how do the rears come off? and the bolts to tighten the ebrake are behind the rear rotors right?
i did the fronts, bent the old rotors taking them off, but im doing the rears next month...

rears
there are 2 holes in the outside of the rotor where the wheel studs come through. thread bolts into these and turn in evenly forcing the rotor off by pushing against the hub.
wait a minute, i got the 2 bolts off the rotors but i didnt have the ebrake off...
i thought the ebrake controlled the caliper, i got the caliper off no problems. the ebrake needs to be off for the ROTOR to come off??

You don't have to remove the e-brake to remove the rear rotor. The e-brake uses the inside of the rotor to stop the car.
Make sure you remove all that rust. You want a perfect metal to metal contact for heat dissipation. Rust can block the heat transfer from the roter to the hub and wheel.
Do not use WD40/Oil becuase it retains heat. So, if you rotor/hub/wheel has oil on it your affecting the heat transfer from the rotor. Use one of the two holes and screw a bolt into it to pop the rotor off the hub.

WD40 it, that should free it. Let it cool down completely also.....
But soak it for a good 20 minutes, lay a 2x4 over the rotor and give it a whack with a big sledge. Right off...NP.
