I couldn't really find a good thread for this but how hard is it to switch VIII tails out for the IX tails?

At my Dads dealership they just got in a GG IX MR and I'm gonna go jack the tail lights for my Rally Red VIII.


Any tips or tricks or suggestions would be good so iI don't run into any problems that I could have possibly avoided. It's probably common sense but we'll see tonight when they both get back!!

Switching your tails is quite possibly the easiest thing to do to your car. Switching from VIII to IX is plug-n-play.

There's a couple of how-to threads on here.

 

1. Pop your trunk
2. Get a phillips screw driver
3. Unscrew the screw with the screw driver
4. Pop out the plug
5. Take out the light
6. Repeat first 5 steps on the other side and your car
7. Swap the light, working your way from 5-2
8. Close your trunk lid (very important)

make sure you re-fill your blinker fluid before you turn them on.....

cliffnotes:

watch when you swing the tail lights out at an angle so you don't crack the inner edge

bring a plyer just in case you can't pull off the plug that's still attached to the tail light when you pull it from the trunk. Might have to crimp the plug a "tad" to get it off the tail light and insert it back into the trunk plug hole...put try to use your man power to pull it off first

I don't think you have to worry about swapping bulbs since it's going to be a direct swap and enjoy the sexy IX tails over the chrome VIII tails

 

^ no you don't have to switch bulbs but make sure you watch for the plastic white molly looking things that insert into holes.
