No the car hasn't been running. I've been busy elsewhere. Now I'm about to put the engine back in and would like to pull apart the transfer case while I can get to it easily.

Wow was this ever resurrected from the dead. If you haven't gotten this problem sorted out yet, I doubt they're going to do anything because you took so long to make a claim on this and there's no way you can prove that you didn't do it since then.

The clutches are in the diff. You need to worry about the gears in the TC.

I am not looking to get it sorted out by the towing company, I just didn't wanna start a new thread. I just wanna know what to look for when I pull the TC.

If the TC was only attached with gears there wouldn't be any slip between the front and rears. There are clutches, or viscous coupling whatever, in the TC.

Who knows what they look like when they're burnt up, cause I've never seen good ones.
