Typical engine life with high HP?

I'm just curious about how long my engine will last with stock internals running 400whp /394tq (BR Mustang Dyno). I plan on building the engine at some point but not anytime soon. Right now I've got about 75,000 miles on the engine with almost half at this HP level. I know there are a lot of variables that go into the equation so here are a few that might come up.

- I don't drive the car hard. I see high boost maybe 2 or 3 times a week.
- I don't track the car much and when I do go, I never make more then 3 passes.
- It's a daily driver (40 miles round trip to work)
- It was tuned by a great tuner (DB)
- I run 29psi with alky (again, I rarely see more then 2-3 psi daily.
- Maintenance is always done early.
- The car has never used race gas.

So, am I likely to see 100,000+ with the way drive and the other variables? Are there other things I may have left out? Anyone out there with high mileage with similar power levels as me?

I'm just curious what others have experienced. I know the 4g63 is a strong well build engine and should do quite exceptional as long as it's not too abused. It might not be a bad idea anyway to start saving now. It will be more like an insurance policy having a build engine.

That's for the feedback guys!

in my honest opinion at 75k u should get alot more miles outta it. just do the routine matinence and dont kill the car.

if your gettin scared about it, start saving up for a rebuild. 2.3 or built 2.0!

worst case senario u blow ur motor and its gonna cost alot more then it should!

That's my biggest concern. It would be much cheaper to build the engine now prior to doing it after it fails. Maybe I'll get that promotion early next year!! ha-ha-ha

Meth will fail and/or misfires at high rpm will damage engine bearings get my vote. If the car stayed tuned free from misfires and alky lag, then it should last some time.

+1 I have cams, big injectors, and all the other bolt ons, run 22psi, spend lots of time at 7k rpm, and have 106k miles. My car doesn't burn oil, and still runs strong.

You just have to maintain it properly and if it's modified, make sure the tune is spot on.

and stay away from meth.

I have basically the same setup you do. I do not run alky but I do run 100VP most of the time. I hav 80k on the engine and the dyno driver that worked out the tune on my car told me that these motors will last to 250 k when you treat them as you have yours. The Tick is that most of the engines on the dyno he sees and he tunes about 20 evos a month seem to lose power consistently after 125K. The power losses are small but he has seen 18 to 25 hp less at peak. He told me that because I do run at 26-30 psi on a stock ECU (knock count is around zero) It would not hurt to make a bottom end change out at 125K. you know switch out the stock stuff for bullet proof stuff like Eagle rods & pistons and new bearings.

I do not know, except I would like to run 30 to 35 PSI all the time, because I use the VP 100 it is possible, em I wonder!!

Lose power consistently after 125k miles? I wonder why is that? I think the record for the highest mileage Evo in United States is at 190k+ miles and hes making 300+awhp. I think as long as you keep maintaining the Evo, it should last you some time...but then again, the 4g63 is a high strung motor. Only time will tell, or mileage.

More hp will always = faster way to kill the engine. But I wouldnt worry about it. Lots of people run over 20k miles on big turbos on all different kinds of cars with no problems. Key is in the tune, and stay knock free.

Well, I think if I can save up the money, sometime next year I'm going to go ahead and build the 2.0 and head. If I continue to drive the car the way I do, it should last a long long time (I'm hoping). Hopefully the only things I'll need to do after this are the minor maintenance stuff, oh and probably a bushwacker trans.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it!
