I dont know the answer to this Q. But if you installed a short shifter, why would you want to extend it? For daily driving??

because as you make the shift shorter it gets harder. lengthening the above as well as the below gets you a short shift that is both short and easy.

plus having a shift closer to the wheel is nice

I messed around with a 1g dsm tall shift knob on my evo. I kinda liked the pistol grip and it didnt feel half bad.

Well yes, leverage, but then why put a short shifter on to begin with?

With a short shifter your moving the pivot point higher and extending the shifter counteracts that somewhat. So im guessing you end up with a taller shifter with a slightly shorter than stock throw like trinydex said. Whereas extending a stock shifter gets you a really long sloppy throw. I wonder, has anyone tried this?

I've been wondering about this on a stock shifter for awhile. My shifting got better just by switching my Vishu shift knob to the slightly taller Ralliart knob.

all i did was shorten the stock shifter above the pivot, so its shorter and its not harder to shift...

I'd buy the bent black one in a MINUTE. RalliArt plastic shift knob + extender = the best IMO.

I have an extender in my car although it's not the one in the thread. Mine was custom made by someone on NASIOC. He may be able to make one for you as well. I like it a bit more than the shown one since it's one piece and looks clean. If you want I can take a pic tomorrow and give you the guy's info. As for how it feels, I ordered the STI short shifter but it's not in yet so I can't comment on the combined effect but I do like how easy it makes the shifts and how it places it at an almost perfect height for me. It's obviously not for everyone though.

shorter is by definition harder to shift.
