Will I Pass Emissions ??? - Help
Will I Pass Emissions ??? - Help
Hey guys, I'm in the process of purchasing an '03 EVO and wanted to know if I'm going to be running into issues at the emission test.
Here's the car's modifications:
- Apexi Turbo Timer
- Apexi SAFC
- HKS Intake and Catback
- Redone I/C piping
Guessing the car's pulling around 330-350 hp at the flywheel
The car definately has more power than a stock EVO 8, and besides concealing the SAFC with a towel or something what else should I consider? Will the turbo timer be questioned?
I live in Denver, CO. They use a sniffer and obviously a visual and I think they do a ODBII scan...
Thanks guys,
- Steve

Yeah I know the turbo timer doesn't do anything as far as the actual emissions. Just didn't know if it would send a red flag to whomever is inspecting it. The car also has a boost gauge located right in front of the steering wheel.
PS The car needs a new clutch, any suggestions?

I would be highly highly very much definitely surprised if they cared about the SAFC. They knew my car was tuned.
Okay, I'm not exactly sure how to turn off the timer but I'll figure it out before emissions come around. probably just a button. As for the SAFC, like I said I've never worked with one. I'm pretty sure it gives you a couple of custom maps to choose from and a base map that might be as easy as pushing a button to get back to stock A/F Settings. I'll have to look into it.

I'm pretty sure they do a OBDII plug-in, and that was another concern. The car doesn't have any CEL's or check engine light, so I'm okay there. Just wondering if the SAFC's maps will throw off the OBDII plug in...
Unless you're running too lean or too rich, and hopefully you aren't, the A/F settings won't need to be stock, especially if they're just doing a sniff test, like I said, I passed the sniff test with a testpipe, I was on the high level of "pollution" of course, but still within range. I betcha your timer is like mine as that's how most have been, if the e-brake is down it won't "turbo time" and if you push the power button on the timer while it is cooling down it will just shut off.
And that's the only thing that I would think the SAFC would do... If you wanted you could just unplug the SAFC, doesn't that just put the stock ECU back in charge of everything but keep your maps?

Cool beans, I think we've got 30 days from date of purchase to do emissions. That'll give me enough time to work out what I'll need to do. I'm sure the car is running lean, but to what degree I don't know.
Thanks for all the helpful information guys, it's appreciated. +1 Rep to everyone who helped out....

I live in Denver and got my emission tested not too long ago. Your SAFC should not affect emissions testing. Make sure you don't have any CEL. Have the cat on. Make sure your stock wheels are on or else they will not put your car on the rollers. If you are concerned about the SAFC hit me up and I'll disconnect it. Don't worry you will not lose any of the settings. Turn off your TT and you should be fine. Oh the clutch, if its slipping a little I wouldn't worry about it at all. If it definitely needs replacement let me know I have an ACT HDSS sitting in my garage I can sell to you.
