So I have a 2006 IX with TBE a my only mod. I haven't gotten it tuned yet, but will be doing a flash soon. On my way home today, I got on it a little, and it backfired. When it backfired, the CEL came on. I realize that is most likely backfired due to running rich. My questions are, one, is there any way to check the CEL without a scanner? I mean, I know on Hondas, you can use a jumper wire or a paperclip and read the blinks. Is there anything like this on my Evo. Second question, any ideas on what the CEL would be? Car seems to be running ok, but I'm still paranoid. I have the mechanical CEL fix for the O2 sensor. Any help would be great. Thanks.

 

I would just go to get the car scanned to be sure what the cel is for. My car does the same exact thing, I get a P0234 code "engine overboost" or "turbo wastegate system malfunction." I am running super rich and I am getting tuned next week. Before you get flamed (JUST LIKE I DID) get tuned...

 

Like the guy above mentioned - get it tuned. 99% the code you got - "Engine Overboost". Tune will fix it. And you can get it scanned for free at AutoZone.

I'm usually pretty good about searching, and refrain friom asking retarded questions, and I realize that these are borderline stupid. But heres the deal, I live in the ****ing middle of nowhere thanks to the USAF and there is no one here that will do CEL scans for free.
Anyways, I reset the ECU and it went away. I guess I'll just lay off the WOT until I get it tuned.
